  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear how stressed you're feeling after having various tests and scans to find out what's causing your pain. Waiting is really horrible and you might find looking at this article on how to ease worry when waiting for medical results helpful.

It's normal for the consultant's secretary not to be able to tell you your results. This is because they're not medically trained and won't be able to answer any questions you have about your diagnosis.

I can see that you've joined the bowel cancer group and I'm sure you'll find the group a great support. You could introduce yourself and post questions by selecting '+New' or '+' (depending on the device you're using) and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Do come back and let us all know how it goes on Wednesday.

Hello my doctor rang today and my biopsy results came back as cancer and when I go to hospital wednesday they will tell me next steps x

  • I'm sorry to read that you've now got a definite cancer diagnosis

Although it's four years ago now, I can remember only too clearly how numb I felt when told I had cancer. However, hopefully you'll find that once you know what your next steps are you'll feel less stressed as you have something concrete to concentrate on.

You haven't said what type of cancer you've been diagnosed with but, if it is bowel cancer, then do pop on to the bowel cancer group as there's nothing that beats talking to others who understand exactly what you're going through.

    Hi Jane,

I am so sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis.

My Mum has just gone through a similar thing in the past few weeks.

Abdominal pains, told it was constipation from multiple GP's, an out of hours doctors appointment and she was rushed into theatre and had a portion of her small intestine removed as the cancer had completely blocked the colon. She has now been fitted with a stoma bag and will be undergoing treatment in the next few weeks. We too had to wait a little over two weeks to hear back from the pathologist - the wait was the hardest thing. Not knowing what to expect, but the Macmillan nurse explained it all thoroughly to us and we were given information on who to contact if we had any further questions.

I must say that every single person who has been involved from the beginning, nurses, doctors etc have been AMAZING! Her treatment plan was made around her and her own health and personal opinions. They did let me attend her consultation in the cancer center for support. However, the hospital visits (hers will be once every 4 weeks), she will have to attend alone.

We decided as a family to come up with a list of questions that we would like answered, as we were told no one could attend with my Mum on any of her appointments due to Covid. She took a piece of paper with all of the questions on it in her handbag in case there was anything that wasn't covered.

Please please keep in touch and let us know how you get on with your appointment!
