Hi my mum whos 68 was diagnosed with myeloma a few weeks before Christmas after she went to hospital with a bad back and not being able to walk properly since then shes had a couple of chemotherapy courses which were all taken in the hospital but on xmas eve she was discharged from hospital and she was able to come home for Christmas which was great having her home and seeing her be a little bit back to her old self again walking better albeit with a walking frame.
But the feeling of joy was shortlived she had gone to the hospital yesterday to have an injection Velcade which was no problem and this morning she was fine but after taking the Cyclophosphamide tablets today we noticed her speech was slurred and she didn't have the ability to raise her hand on the right side so we rang an ambulance and they took her back to hospital where they believe she might have suffered a mini stroke her symptoms have got better but shes due to take her next chemotherapy on Friday and I've read that this can lead to strokes in the future it's just more worries and feels like you take a step forward and then get taken back again the whole uncertainty is what makes things so hard we just hope that the good progress she has made isn't lost by this setback and hopefully some luck will be on our side! Thanks for listening
Hi , welcome to the online community, I’m sorry to hear about your Mum, that uncertainty and one step forward and then taken back again is very common, I’ve felt that myself a few times, but I’m the patient but different cancer and on immunotherapy rather than chemotherapy. I noticed you hadn’t joined any groups yet, but seem to be finding your way around the site, as you’ve found the ask an expert section.
I was thinking you might want to look at the links below for groups that might interest you and be supportive for you, then you can start a discussion bas you have done here with people who identify with what your going through, and perhaps have had some similar experiences.

Thanks KTat Yeah it does seem that way its good to know that there are the support groups in place I've only just joined but I can see they will be a great help for anyone. Thanks I will definitely join these, just searching through the blogs is comforting to know there is hope and we can fight this and win. Best regards for the new year and with your treatment!
