Hi All. I am male far 42. Just wondering if i could get advice on something here. I am 9 months post post-r-chop treatment for my Large B Cell Lymphoma IV stage. I had thick hair before the treatment that yes grew back now...but extremely thin on top. I compared before and after photos and yes...much much thinner on top. My question is would my hair thicken up as the time goes or this is it. Considering hair transplant but being only 9 months into remission might be not worth a hassle...as things could change for me...hopefully not. Any advise. Thank you in advance.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community, although I am sorry to see you finding us.

I have lived and been treated for T-Cell Lymphoma for over 20 years now and have lost my hair three times so I do understand where you are coming from.

I had very thick silver hair and after my first set of treatment it did come back just about the same but it did take a good year, now, after two Stem Cell Transplants it is very thin but I still have hair!!...... I am ok with it.......I am just happy to be here talking to you.

We do have a dedicated  Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma Forum where you will connect with people who understand the journey you are in.

Chemo treatment is so different across each type of cancer and even across Lymphoma so each person will be different.

Hi Mike-Highlander. Thank you for this. I might wait a full 12 months to make any judgement. Disappointing is that I was told that they will grow back...but didn't expect it to be so thin 9 months post. I will follow the Lymphoma group as advised. Thank you again.

  • My barber recommended to get my hair cut often, more than I would normally as this encourages growth.

You also have to remember that the effects of your chemo (R-CHOP...?) does stay in your system for far longer than you would think and 6-9 months is not unrealistic!!.

You are in the post treatment journey so you may well have to deal with various post treatment issues. The folks in the Lymphoma forum do understand that this part of the treatment...... notice I include post treatment as part of the treatment...... has to be gone through as well.
