Can I stay here?

Hi All

I have just had some rather wonderful stunning news and it has thrown me. I am currently 'No Active Disease' and somehow I never expected this. After my recent lung op I had six nodules removed last week and I got the lab results back this morning. Only one nodule was confirmed rectal mets and the others were various scars, inflamed tissue and rubbish but no cancer much to the surgeons surprise. Also the lymph nodes were clear. Obviously the chance of it coming back is pretty high. The five year survival rate for stage 4 is around 5% but now it is a good as it can be. It has floored me to be honest. Scared to hope but I intend to enjoy every moment of life, what ever happens. I hope that I can keep chatting here or will I be thrown out on my ear for masquerading as not very well?

Watch and wait here I come. My husband has been refusing to buy me an eternity ring as he said he wouldn't get his moneys worth out of it. Perhaps I can pester him for one now?

  • Best of luck Salis!

  • Best of luck to you too alsopkj x

  • Come on, don't forget us. We need to know how you have been celebrating, what you have done or have you taken to your bed in shock, only waking up for red wine and kitkats? We need to here from you very soon. Xxxxx

  • Oh @Norberry if only you knew. My euphoria changed to misery in the blink of an eye as I lost sight of the long term plan. My chest drain site got infected and decided to dump over a litre of fluid into my bed without warning to the point where I got admitted to A&E as it wouldn't stop. I am home now and I have got a wound infection as well as a drain hole infection so antibiotics are happening. The hole in my wound is getting bigger and is being packed. I am not sleeping, struggling with constipation and still struggling with nerve pain.

Apart from that I am fine....

Oh and I can't drink at the mo due to the huge cocktail of meds I am on but currant buns are still allowed and as I wilt on the sofa my darling husband lifts the occasional chunk of fruit n nut choccy to my trembling lips of an evening.

Thank God for Cadbury's (am I allowed to advertise? Other inferior chocolate is available at all good sweetie shops).

Life is still good thanks, I have just lost sight of it for a bit. I should plan a celebration for when lockdown ends which will involve the finest cakes known to man, tea and champagne.

Oh  I’m so sorry to hear this, that your euphoria was so short lived and ended in such a dramatic and god awful way. Large amounts of fluid where there’s not supposed to be fluid are frightening & have the potential to wreak havoc.

It sounds like you’ve moved from the original crisis to damage limitation and there’s a lot to manage, pain, sleep, constipation & wound care, that’s exhausting. Baby steps.

The long term plan will come back to the foreground and you have a spot  in my therapy room whenever you’re ready. Sending big virtual hugs, hang in there xx

  • Well Nicky, I am going to be rude here. It sounds like it has all come undone, but these are short term snagging problems however unpleasant and upsetting.. You still have the monster prize at the end of the rainbow and thats where  you are staggering to.

Stuff that choc down you, La Norbette will only eat Cadbury too, got to get your pleasures where you can.

How do I think I am qualified to give serious opinions, but I have started to do it a lot. I like it.

  • Whats the matter with me? It is awful what you are going throught at the moment and I should be offering love and sympathy not two bob quackery..

    Forgive me Nicky.
