Perhaps this crisis is a timely reminder to oncologists that they should always be clear about the purpose of treatment. They sometimes think they are but they aren’t. My oncologist got shirty when I asked if the purpose of treatment was to give me more time. She said she’d explained that clearly in the previous meeting, but she really hadn’t.
