For better or for worse we're planning a pre-scan family holiday in early April to the Costa del sol, days after the proposed brexit date. Considering travel insurance is already a ballache for many of us here, I'm supposing it may be even more difficult this time round. Has anyone had any success recently and with which insurers?

Thanks in advance.

I don't mind forgoing the medical side of things and flying by the seat of my pants if I need to but my wife is slightly more conservative about it so would be good to at least get a quote or two. I've used boots before  ut they've just given me a scary looking WE CAMT INSURE YOU message and booted me out their site.

  • Hey Graeme,

I'd check the travel insurance forum first to see who is finding what and where.

One thing I will say though is that if you want your cancer insured then you're never going to get a quote online I'm afraid. It's always going to have to be a phone call.

I'm with you though, and when I've gone away I just exclude my cancer. But luckily I'm in a position where I can do that because it's all fairly stable and nothing untoward should happen with it on a holiday.

But good luck getting quotes tomorrow. Fingers crossed they aren't insane!

    Hi Graham

Not from personal knowledge but several people on here have been waxing lyrical about Boots.

  • Hi ,

I got a reasonable quote from Boots in November for a single trip worldwide cover.  As Lass said, you need to phone them though.

    Good luck.

  • Hi , might be worth having a look at StaySure as well. I just got mine from there. Not too bad. Good luck! Dx

    Hi Graeme

I'm a lover of Boots travel insurance & have used 4 my last 3 hols which included covering the cancer & paying extra 4 the cruise element. I did have 2 speak 2 a human & the application was referred 2 their broker. This year i haven't got a hol booked yet due my family not agreeing on when & where but i may struggle 4 cover as my sell by date expures this year. Will they/won't they cover? Who knows...

I never had much luck with the specialist cancer insurance companies - they were 2 dear (quoted over £1000) & they wanted blood tests & consultant letters....

Maybe I'm 2 honest cos other people seem 2 get much cheaper quotes even being an incurable.

Good luck with ur hunt, let us know how u get on.

  • Hi Graeme, I'm with your wife, I'd worry if I wasn't insured! I have annual cover with eurotunnel.com! Before them with MIA but individual trips only. Yes you have to phone yourself but all they are interested in is- does your doctor or specialist know you are going and have no objection! We also have an ESTA card for EU countries. Our insurance doesn't expire until May but if it's a "no deal Brexit" we will not be able to use these cards at all.

If possible it's worth phoning them now to see if they'll give you annual cover! Go to their website and there is a freephone number to call from the UK! Good luck!

  • Hi Graeme,

If you are classed as incurable rather than terminal then you should be able to get a policy from Eurotunnel.  They require you to have verification from your doctor that they are happy for you to fly and that your condition is currently stable (which you only provide to them when you make a claim) but I got an annual policy for the family for under £100.

Their website is a pain though and it always takes me ages to find the exclusion criteria but once I am clear what they require I ring them up and arranging cover is straightforward.  No big medical questions, just verbal confirmation that you meet their criteria.

    Enjoy your holiday.

    Hi

Agree with re Eurotunnel. If you are not terminal or travelling against medical advice it will be super quick and easy phone call. My Mum off to Spain for 3 days for £12 after having quotes for over £100.

I also agree about Eurotunnel - very few questions and fortunately my oncologist never uses the word terminal.

Two years ago I insured for a weeks croatian cruise for about £28 - was amazed.  Was mostly concerned about insuring osteoporosis than cancer but they are not interested in your individual illnesses.
