I've been diagnose with stage 4 terminal lung cancer but can't get travel insurance.  I would dearly love one last special holiday with my husband but the assistant in the travel agents said I'd be lucky to get any company to insure me.  Has any one had a similar problem but managed to resolve it?

    Hey Minstral

A holiday sounds like a good idea. However, as mentioned on many posts on this site we do struggle with getting anyone 2 insure us. This will sound a bit insensitive but have you had a diagnosis of terminal as in there are no more options or treatments available,, or are u incurable but there are still treatments e.g. chemo, radiotherapy?

There are some specialist cancer insurance companies but quite often the price is astronomical and they will not insure with more than 4 weeks 2 go b4 the trip. Cruises tend 2 attract a higher price due 2 the ports and also the "at sea days".

Since my incurable diagnosis 4 years ago I've bn lucky enough 2 enjoy annual cruises at a reasonable price (bn dearer than other people's quotes on this site but maybe I'm 2 honest!). The last 3 trips have bn covered by Boots but u do need 2 speak 2 the operators themselves & b prepared 2 answer a lot of questions ; even then they have 2 refer 2 a broker.

My premium was higher this year as I'd bn admitted 2 hospital with Sepsis last year. Not sure if I'll b fit enough 4 another trip as I'm running out of treatments.

Good luck & let us know how u get on.

    Hi

great idea! Holidays are the best.

Have you seen the travel insurance group in the community? Might be worth a look

    Hi

If you are sticking to mainland Europe and your Onc agrees to travel then Eurotunnel are your best bet. You are only terminal if you have run out of options and no more treatment is available.

Hope you manage to find something.

    Hugs xx

Thank you, I thought Eurotunnel only insured if you travelled by Eurotunnel to the continent but I'll certainly have a look xx

Hi there wee blonde, Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post.  I'd  never thought about it in the context.  I was diagnosed about  last year as terminal and was to receive 'pallative treatment'  since which time I've had 10 sessions of Radiotherapy. 6 cycles of chemo and am now receiving immunotherapy after they found another mass.

Is that Boots the Chemist?  if so would never have thought of them  But I am going to check out every one.  I find it so much easier to explain to someone when I can talk to them either face to face or on the phone than ticking boxes on a form online.

Like you I am frightened to be anything but honest, Trouble is not only is my condition against me but also my husbands age!  but I'm determined to get there by hook or by crook.

    Thank you again xxxxx

  • Hi and ,

I rang Eurotunnel to renew my travel insurance and was advised that they now only insure you if you have booked a trip with them.  Not an issue for me this year as we are going to France but will have to think about it for next year.

    Hello,

I saw your blog about travel insurance. I have been given a life expectancy of 6 months and have booked a holiday to turkey but can't find an insurance that will accept me. Do any members on this blog know any companies that may be sympathetic to my needs. Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you. Pleachlet

    Good morning

I went on holiday earlier in the year and used insurance with.com. When I went I was much more stable than I am now. I only paid around £100 for 3 nights in Spain, however I don't know about Turkey and your condition. Definitely worth a look though.

Enjoy your holiday... I'm desperately hoping I have time for one more xx
