Hi everyone
Dont know if its the light mornings but Im really feeling the effects of lack of sleep through emptying my stoma bag in the night.not too bad if it happens whilst still dark but after dawn its hopeless getting back to sleep.
Probably no real answer, just needed to vent a little.

My own late dad also had a colostomy as a result of rectal cancer

Hi, yes I do and it's causing me a lot of problems - was told to try imodium, but I don't like what I have read about it.
I had a ileostomy a few months ago, large removed, plus some from smaller bowel two - a very aggressive cancer they said - they took it all out, but said that it could come back!
These longer nights and darker mornings are great.so much easier to get back to sleep after the trips to the loo in the night .

What goes in has to come out. I now try to have my main meal at lunchtime, with a snack in the evening. It makes a difference if you have an ileostomy. Curiously, a couple of Ibuprofen tablets before bed seem to knock me out for seven hours.

Once I'm out of bed, I can't get back to sleep. It's really messing my life up! I also get pain after emptying bag and passing water early hours. Just wondering whether these are normal side effects after a ileostomy and how long will they last?
When did you have your operation? I needed more visits to the lavatory during the night, without pain but with a sense of soreness within, for a couple of months afterwards. I just put it down to having my internals disturbed, cut, stitched, pushed out of the way and pushed back again. It disappeared once the healing process was complete.
