Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes. I have stoma, lower left side. I have now been diagnosed with an insicional hernia on the original incision to remove the tumour. It'a about 2 inches directly below the stoma. Surgeon is going to sort it with some mesh but has advised I wear some sort of support until the op. Ive tried a couple of types which go around the waist and a piece goes down over the hernia and back up behind. Problem is that this bit sits right over the stoma! Any suggestions please?
Hi LenC
I don't have any suggestions but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be easier for the group members who may have the right experience to see it.
Hi LenC
My understanding is that a stoma support belt is designed to go over the stoma whilst not restricting the output. I don’t use one myself as I don’t have a hernia there, but did investigate stoma support belts in my initial recovery period just in case I needed one,

Hi Sarah, it isn't to support the stoma which is fine, it's to support a hernia which is about 2 inches below the stoma. The belt I tried supported the hernia but went right across the stoma!!
Good news is that I've just got a letter following an appointment with the surgeon on 3rd Nov with an admission for surgery on 28th !
Hi LenC
Sorry-yes, I understand what you’re saying but I thought that your issue was the support belt going over the stoma? Maybe I’ve misunderstood. Hopefully your surgery will sort you out-good luck with getting it fixed!

Hello LenC,
You might look at the Comfizz website to see the range of waistbands and similar supports they produce for ostomates. There might be something there that suits. I have two stomas with parastomal hernias which don't cause me a problem, but on formal occasions I wear a waistband for gentle and even support to improve my profile. Otherwise I would have to buy a new suit!
