Hi all
just after some advice. I have had my stoma for a week. I am home and all was going ok.
Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any movement in my stoma for 24 hours now and it does feel a bit more tender. As it’s the weekend; there isn’t anyone I can ring so thought I’d see if any of you had any ideas of what I can do.
Thanks
Helen
Yes, I have a colostomy and urostomy as I’ve had everything removed from my pelvis-and I mean everything!
The first time I flew, I tried the no eating and drinking but was unsuccessful-my bag exploded in the car just as we reached the airport car park barriers. Now I just eat and drink as normal-I think my stress levels were very high the first time which gave me the runs. I take a small wash bag in my hand luggage on the plane, and changing the bag went without a hitch.
Have a lovely day with your granddaughters-they’ll keep you on your toes!

Hi Sarah
Hope you are getting the case packed have a good time, weather here is awful.
My sample has just arrived of the new Geni bag and i have watched a You Tube to learn must say first impressions look's good and neat lot smaller than the Hollister 56900 with flange and belt attachments i have been using these were given to me after the op just done a change this am so certainly will give it a try it sticks without any additional glue! mine at present does stick out a lot with belt flange etc
all the best tony
Hi Tony
Yes-awful weather today so it will be good to see some sun!
I use a Hollister 59901 convex bag for my urostomy, but hate the belt attachments, which I don’t need or use. But it works so much better than the flat bag I was using when I first started. . However it is a bit bulky for my liking so I’m always keen to try something neater. I’m waiting for my sample to give it a try, and look forward to seeing how you get on with it.

Yes i have known no other its what the nurse started me on and i have been too busy up to recently to look around and yes absolutely right it is very bulky and i thought the belt was safety feature if it gets full and unable to drain at that point takes the weight, have had only one mess one night first week must have been my fault not fastened the drain secure, after that i put a small bulldog clip on the end of the drain that works no chance of coming open would give the airport scanner and officer a problem ?? but i would not be taking it off. Yep look forward to trying the flat bag and for me the you tube on how to use it was very helpful without watching it i could not work out how to remove the sticky cover a peel off never saw that one. Not confident enough yet to travel maybe try after Christmas short flight.
all the best Tony, and as always thank you for the tips to a newbie
Hi Tony
I’ve tried a lot of different products in over 2 years! At first in hospital I think there was a lot of guesswork on the nurses part and I had a lot of leaks which was dispiriting. Of course stomas change shape and size as you heal, so over the next few months I tried different things on the recommendation of my wonderful stoma nurse who visited me at home.
The airport scanner will beep at the bulldog clip, but in any case will pick up that you have something at your waist. No need to take the clip off or remove anything in my experience. As soon as I say I have a medical appliance there it’s all very discreet on their part and they take you somewhere private. It’s really very straightforward.
I have tried trio bags in the past and got in a bit of a pickle with the seals (not as straightforward as the Hollister urostomy bags and Salts colostomy bags I use) so I plan to be extra careful when my sample arrives!

Morning Tony
My Trio samples have arrived today-how did you get on with yours? I asked for some flange extenders which look to be slightly different to previous versions I have tried from Trio, and easier to peel the backing off! I use these on my urostomy bags, and these are neater and softer than the ones I currently use. I moved away from drainable bags for my colostomy last year onto closed bags, but there are times when drainable could be useful for me, so I will try them, although they are bigger than those I currently use. It’s always interesting to try out new products-you never know if there’s something better out there!

Hi Sarah
Have not tried the samples yet just did a change before they arrived but due a change today/tomorrow, nervous!!!
as i only know the hollister 56900 which i have confidence in no leaks but bulky as tummy also protrudes on that side.
Thank you for the update today 18 11 2022
I have in front on me samples
1 Convatec. Two samples The esteem convex range
Two piece mouldable tech + skin barrier spray
Advantages are said to be the baseplate can be left on for maybe 10 days therefore, less changes less skin irritation, and the polar neck pullup protects the skin further from output.
Negative, maybe protrudes further.
skin barrier spray just sprays the whole area to protect from any output.
2 also from convatec one piece esteem one piece incudes baseplate one-piece system is the all-in-one solution that combines the baseplate and pouch in a single unit, allowing for a simple, these resist water and dry quickly, the shape is streamlined for added comfort and discretion secure, and comfortable experience. Available with Durahesive® technology that adheres to skin
these resist water and dry quickly, the shape is streamlined for added comfort and discretion.
On these I think I would go for the TWO piece if on a trip easier to change and rinse the bag out whilst leaving the base plate in place. But if at home would go for the one piece + skin barrier.
Next my sample from TRIO
The Geni + silicone stoma gel
unique Sil2 Breathable Silicone Technology® in the flange. Which means it sticks with a unique silicone adhesive, seals perfectly to protect skin and moves with your body so it feels like it’s not even there. Win, win!
Sounds really good and fits close little protrusion although my stomach that side does
protrude much more than the left I guess that is normal??? Must say these look very neat.
Yours thoughts before trial and after very much appreciated
when are you off i will leave you alone during the time away
cheers tony

Hi Tony
It will be interesting to see what you think of these other samples you have. I have never used a 2 piece system, as I can’t imagine having the baseplate on my skin for 10 days and they look bulkier than I would be comfortable with. I like to shower without bags when I can and would immediately change the bag to feel clean, so I wouldn’t be comfortable with a 2 piece system. But then again a colostomy is quite different to an ileostomy where you need to empty frequently, so I can see why it might appeal. I know my skin can get very irritated around the urostomy without frequent complete bag changing and it can feel very itchy!
I used to use the stoma gel from Trio and found it excellent when I first had my stomas and had creases on either side of my urostomy. The gel was amazing to use to fill those creases and better than any other product I had tried for the same purpose. I no longer have those creases to fill as time has gone on, so no longer have need for it. Do you have creases to fill that need this extra help? My bags stuck much better when I used it to fill in those “dips” in my skin.
I’m off on holiday on the 26th, but I usually pop in every day in my role as a community champ to make sure there are no posts left unanswered in the cervical group, and I’m happy to respond to posts here. I hope you find your new nevk gadget helps with your discomfort there.
