Hi folks,
I'm new here - but having a really annoying problem that I can't seem to get much help with.
I've had an ileostomy for over 25 years and have been on TPN feeding for 6 years. My output is high (between 2 and 3 litres) and I'm trying to not eat or drink much but losing that battle regularly.
I've got a main bag over my stoma and another bag over an open fistula which is much quieter but needs covering. The two bags overlap so it gets quite complicated.
My most recent issue is that I'm getting a small hole at the bottom of my main stoma bag (a Dansac Maxi) which quickly develops into a big problem due to watery output. The hole is right at the point where the bag closes over and it's as though the corner of the bag folds against itself and rubs away a hole.
My stoma nurse also mentioned that it could be that my output could be burning a hole in the bag?? She said she's never seen this before and she's trying to get me samples of different products. But it's annoying as I get a really good seal with this bag but this issue keeps happening.
Anyone got any experience of this?
I had it happen once in the year I had my ileostomy, a very annoying tiny hole. I believed it was a faulty bag (Salts Confidence) and never had it happen again. I can't see how it could be caused by burning, they are supposed to take acidic waste are they not?
I hope you find a solution, all the best
Thank you
Yeah I'm not convinced it's burning the hole either - as it's always in the same place (and right at the corner where the bag closes over).
Hi pandarilla
How annoying.
Could you test the bag before you attach it to you?
A small jug and some water should do the trick.
Ann
Hello! I've been searching around to see if anyone else had this exact problem. It's a weakness behind where the velcro flap is sealed to the bag. I contacted Dansac and they fobbed me off. I tried to tell my stoma nurse and they said different products work for different people. It started happening around May or June and happened 5 or 6 times to me (not loose output, luckily). I have now had to change appliance. Worried by the total lack of acknowledgement from Dansac. They even lied about testing samples I had returned (I hadn't sent them anything).
Just to let you know: the problem is with the product, not you.
Nor to me, before this summer! Luckily caught the pictured one straight away, before that confidence-sapping damage is done. Have been using the same product for years with no issues. I did used to like the sensura mio. Perhaps I'll go back to that. Can't remember why I stopped.
Best to you, too
I'm so glad it's not just me!!
I had about a month of no issues (with the same bag) but in the last few weeks it's happened twice.
It seems to happen when I don't empty the bag as regularly and it becomes quite heavy / full - but I'm not entirely sure.
Did you say you've changed appliance and solved the problem? If so, which bag did you switch to?.
