Hi folks,
I'm new here - but having a really annoying problem that I can't seem to get much help with.
I've had an ileostomy for over 25 years and have been on TPN feeding for 6 years. My output is high (between 2 and 3 litres) and I'm trying to not eat or drink much but losing that battle regularly.
I've got a main bag over my stoma and another bag over an open fistula which is much quieter but needs covering. The two bags overlap so it gets quite complicated.
My most recent issue is that I'm getting a small hole at the bottom of my main stoma bag (a Dansac Maxi) which quickly develops into a big problem due to watery output. The hole is right at the point where the bag closes over and it's as though the corner of the bag folds against itself and rubs away a hole.
My stoma nurse also mentioned that it could be that my output could be burning a hole in the bag?? She said she's never seen this before and she's trying to get me samples of different products. But it's annoying as I get a really good seal with this bag but this issue keeps happening.
Anyone got any experience of this?
Hi there it’s nothing to do with you. It’s the product. There’s no way that should happen. I’ve never heard of such a thing it’s so out of order and as for your clothes being ruined. It’s really not on. I’ve lost some nice things through my mistake and I was upset. There’s no way to get the stain out. For you to loose your clothing through a faulty products and worse to loose your confidence
I would change your product asap and hopefully get your confidence back
I really hope that this helps
Ann
Thank you - very kind words.
I'm having trouble getting another suitable product unfortunately. I do have a Coloplast but both my Stoma nurse and the nurse team at Bullens have struggled to get alternative samples.
I've tried the Coloplast a couple of times with no success yet but I'll see how the next few weeks go.
Oh no.
Can you phone your hospital stoma nurses they’ve sent me lots of types through the post
Im with Coloplast charter and have found them very good at ordering and delivery but my prescription comes from my hospital stoma nurses I can’t change the order unless they say so
Hope you have some better quality pouches soon
Ann
It's a real pain - it sounds like you are in a similar position to me. I don't get a good seal with a lot of products, and my skin reacts badly to some others (the 2-piece convatec ones are brilliant, but they turn my abdomen into just raw skin. No good.)
I have just started to use pelican 2-piece, as of 2 days ago. Your delivery company may be able to give samples. I've always used 2-piece systems anyway. They have stronger adhesive and make me feel much more secure.
Still, I've never found a product that works as well as the Dansac without causing me irritation, so this issue has really thrown me out. Hope you can get something sorted. If they aren't acknowledging the problem it would be impossible for me to go back to them.
I have had my ieostomy for 21 years and have used bags from several manufacturersI in that time. have been using Dansac one piece drainable bags for my ileostomy for about 3 years without fault. I change my bag avery day. Over about the last 3 months I have had leaks 8 times. Like you the leaks have been in the lower part roughly where the folding portion starts. I went to the trouble of thoroughly cleaning a "burst" bag to investigate. Ugh! The leak came from a small slit 1-2 mm long and would appear to be from the area where 2 welded clear plastic seams meet. I don't want to give up on these bags because I find them to be otherwise 1st class. I am confident that this is a fault made during manufacture. I will be contacting Dansac to advise them accordingly and will report what their response is. We all requre ostomy bags to be secure, free from smells, leaks and ballooning and to have total confidence in the product.
