Everyone must be bored silly hearing me go on about this but I've had another few weeks of constant diahorrea followed by constipation! I take Immodium to stop and Senna to start! It would be funny if it wasn't ruining my life! My stoma nurse adviced taking 1 Senna every night, which I did on Saturday! Sunday only a very little output but Monday, OMG!! One gurggle and that was it, bag nearly bursting off my body and it just wouldn't stop! Sorry to be so graphic but it was horrendous! This time I haven't taken Immodium and it did stop after an hour or so! This morning I phoned the Stoma Clinic and I've been told to go back to bland foods! I haven't a clue how to make something interesting out of mashed potatoes, chicken and white rice, no veg ! Oh, forgotten bananas and smooth peanut butter! I hate sounding so sorry for myself, apologies everyone! It wouldn't be so bad if I knew WHY this is happening after 16 months but no-one seems to know!
Apologies again,
Moira x
Hi Moira
I wrote a long answer but I can’t put it up. Not sure what words were wrong it was a salad recipe. Wotsits thicken as do crackers. A ate them to slow my out put down at night. Mine was loose and skin burning.
Have a fish finger sandwich tomorrow. I can definitely recommend oh with sea salt. As we have to up our salt intake. It’s lovely
Ann
I actually read your post earlier! I'm wondering the same thing about senna and now that I've had a huge clear out, there surely can't be anymore in there, I keeping well away from it! I'll be following advice on here about fruit juices and prunes first, if needed! Obviously I'll always listen to Stoma nurses but I do know my body best, most of the time!
Thanks again,
Moira
Wotsits thicken? I've died and gone to heaven! That and fish fingers, wow, if this works for me you're a life saver! Salads tend to make me loose so for now, I'm happy with what you've suggested!
Thank you Ann, I'll let you know what happens after my fish finger sandwich tomorrow!
Best Wishes,

Hi Three,
My husbands consultant suggested Ispaghula husk, which he took initially and had the explosion. Whether that was because he had a lot of back up, or what, we don't know. The second time he took Movical, and there was just a watery output, but we are pretty sure there wasn't much in there to come out!!
We are now wondering what to do in future. The stoma nurse suggested a daily laxative, but we are very loathe to do that. I washed and ironed 6 sheets in 3 days!!! I think he wants to try daily prunes and we'll see how that goes!!! He has been fine for 6 months until this.
Yep wotsits come out as they go in. Ha ha but chewed. Funny thing is I didn’t like wotsits before my op but became my guilty pleasure when my output was too loose and burned my skin. I think I was confident eating them as I felt they wouldn’t block. I was paranoid about blocking. Wotsits are like great to thicken.
Salads loosen, I combine and mix it up when I’m running well if Whoopi kicks off I go back to the Fishfingers and mayo yummy. Enjoy
Ann
I found Movical far to strong but, unlike your husband, I hadn't been for days! I think I'll probably go on Ducosate, more stool softener rather than laxative! I've had bits of diarrhoea and constipation over the last 16 months but nothing near as bad as this! Food is something I've enjoyed until this last 6 weeks!
Tell your husband good luck from me, thank goodness for this site,
Moira
Hi Ann,,
I drink loads! I'm diabetic so I'm always thirsty but I think the diluted orange hasn't helped the diarrhoea so I've switched to water! I've cut right down on coffee, I've had one tea and one peppermint tea so hopefully this will help too!
Best Wishes,
Moira x
