Everyone must be bored silly hearing me go on about this but I've had another few weeks of constant diahorrea followed by constipation! I take Immodium to stop and Senna to start! It would be funny if it wasn't ruining my life! My stoma nurse adviced taking 1 Senna every night, which I did on Saturday! Sunday only a very little output but Monday, OMG!! One gurggle and that was it, bag nearly bursting off my body and it just wouldn't stop! Sorry to be so graphic but it was horrendous! This time I haven't taken Immodium and it did stop after an hour or so! This morning I phoned the Stoma Clinic and I've been told to go back to bland foods! I haven't a clue how to make something interesting out of mashed potatoes, chicken and white rice, no veg ! Oh, forgotten bananas and smooth peanut butter! I hate sounding so sorry for myself, apologies everyone! It wouldn't be so bad if I knew WHY this is happening after 16 months but no-one seems to know!
Apologies again,
Moira x
I’m still low fibre as my Ileostomy is easier to manage. I don’t eat much fibre like oats ,porridge weetabix as it make me stodgy. I dislike the output being thick as it’s hard to get out. If it does become stodgy I use a little water to clean out the opening and keep things moving with fluid.
I like prune juice, I’d try a small glass to see how it goes and stop stodgy foods.
We are all different and what works for one may not for another.

Here I go again, 3 days with no output! Now I'm waiting for shopping delivery with prunes! I'm living where, without a car, it's impossible to shop, so by the time the shopping arrives, it's going to be 5 days! Do I stick it out or take the dreaded senna! I didn't mention, I have mobility issues, I wonder if that makes it worse?

Oh Moira what a horrible time you’re having.
I didn’t realise that you have mobility issues that will definitely cause some issues there. When I’ve had little output for what I’ve put in I do the pelvic floor and move about a lot.
I’m not sure about senna. I think I’d break the tablet up as I’m sure I was blocked once with a tablet. I know that you can make senna or tea which may be a gentle way to get things moving.
I hope things improve soon.

Hi Ann,
Yes, I started using a wheelchair a few years back because of emphysema! I was just told last Friday I have Osteoarthritis so I won't be running any marathons soon! I had a feeling not moving about much would affect stoma, 4 days today and still nothing! The nurses don't seem very bothered but I panic! I remember my mam giving me senna tea when I was little so I have always had trouble with constipation! I think you need senna pods or something but I might see if I can get some! Thanks Ann,
Best Wishes,
Moira x
Hi Ann,
I'm thinking of renaming Brooke, Etna, after the explosion yesterday! 5 days with nothing came to a very abrupt end! It's a complete waste of time phoning the stoma nurses because I'll just be told to eat bland food and take a senna every night! Well, I might be getting up there in age but I refuse to live on chicken and mash! I'm going to try and sort it myself, with some of the advice from the lovely people on here!
Best Wishes,
Moira.
Hi Moria
love the name Etna and very apt.
Hopefully diet will help get Etna return to bubbling Brooke
I have found diet keeps things moving well. Salads loosen me and crackers thicken. I was always told make a colourful plate. We could ask for recipes from others that have had similar issues.
Have a good day
Ann
A food delights diary would be a good start. Write all the foods that you really like and try them to see what makes Etna stop erupting and allows Brooke to bubble slowly plus you’ll really enjoy testing it.
Maybe you need soft leaf salads with your meals with spinach and Italian style leafs, cucumber is lovely, I skin it ,cut it in half and with a tsp I scrape out the seeds. ( I did that before as I don’t like soggy salad) radish and peppers all help me to keep Whoops doing her thing. Beetroot though the colour of the output can be a shock. I don’t have porridge or similar as it makes my output thick which doesn’t work well for me it causes a buildup and can push the bag off, if I’m too loose the dry crackers sort it but not many.
