Tips please on Attaching Bag so no Leaks

Help please. It’s driving me nuts I cannot seem to attach my bag tightly to the edge of my Stoma which then pancakes or leaks around under the bag and burns my skin.

After a serious burn I changed it daily to bathe and calamine, barrier spray or Eakin slim. I don’t use anything but water to cleanse

This is not ideal as I’m wasting my equipment but needs must.

Could it be too many Christmas treats. I do seem to have a little too much tummy weight at the moment?

Or is it just me doing something wrong?

My provider recommended trying a different type of bag to be honest they looked exactly the same until I tried removing them. They stuck fast and broke up making changing a challenge  I’ve got some samples for sensitive skin from my nurse but had the same issue, they pancaked.

Maybe my Stoma shrinks back as I move about?
She’s quite proud when I clean her

My Stoma nurses aren’t available at the moment and I hoped that someone could just say how they have overcome this annoying problem.

  • Thanks Sarah

yes I wondered about bags Alaine mentioned them too.

Think this morning was user error. I was so determined to stick it around Whoops I didn’t flatten warm  hand for thirty seconds. School girl error as they say.

Boy did I regrett it and Whoopi was spouting like Volcano. I was in a mess and so were my clothes. I’d just had a lovely shower too.

  • Thanks Alaine

I have to admit she really got me today. I was not prepared and she was very active. Nearly called hubby to help. But I got the measure of her and have taken measures to make sure I have extra towels hidden. We’ve just had new bathroom fitted. Well she obviously wanted to make use of it. Twas everywhere. I hadn’t even eaten.
It’s hilarious really once I got sorted I could see funny side. Hubby thought I was drying hair and wondered why I’d changed and my hair was still wet.

  • hi SarahH21 and Artsie, you can now get the banana strips/ hydra frames with manuka honey. This really helps sore skin. I also occasionally get fault bags but in 11 years that didn't seem too bad. Your confidence will grow with time. I wear white shorts and shirts in the Summer. I'd never have risked this in the early days.

  • hi Artsie, if you can see the funny side when things go wrong and sh*ite goes everywhere  I think it helps. If you can laugh about this stuff  I think it lowers the stress level and the embarassment.

I was covered in **it and I did start to chuckle as I was trying to sort out all this stuff. Where does it come from. I also thanked my lucky stars I wasn’t out

  • Hi Kath

I tried bags with manuka honey when I had some samples and they did feel really nice on the skin. I was wearing white trousers abroad and sitting with another lady chatting having a coffee one day. She also had white trousers on. She spilt her coffee over hers and I was fine! But I too would not have risked white in the early days.

  • White is very brave. I would wear white with a black tunic.
