Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.
  • Our lawn is also growing fast and looking good, Sir Bob, we did a lot of treatment, spiking, feeding and weeding.....we have a heavy clay soil so every few years we use the spiker which brings out plugs of soil, it's hard going and takes most of the day, but it does benefit the lawn, we brush in lawn stuff afterwards, but often it leaves a certain amount of 'hole' left, somehow it works and that year the lawn looks terrific!

Glad you are doing better with food, though it sounds as if your choice at the pub gave you some overnight trouble!

carry on being you, love and hugs to you and the family!

Glad to hear your visit went well at Kate's new school, and that they have a good support system in place for September.

Thanks Mary and Helen for your replies.

A fair day today although I have been really tired for most of it. I awoke at about eight this morning and im so tired I cannot really remember what I have done all day, possibly because I havnt really done anything. Oh I remember I accompanied Linda to the Gym where she did nearly half an hour on the treadmill and another half an hour on some other bit of kit. It wore me out just watching her. I skipped breakfast but did manage a bit of lunch. I have spent the afternoon asleep and did not awake till Kate's  friends mum came round to pick up her daughter. Poor old Kate, scooting around my study looking for something or other, came across an envelope containing envelopes, to be opened after my death. That understandably spooked her a bit but she seems to have recovered well. Luckily she did not undo them or look in to it further. We are now sitting quietly having just managed a bit of tea. Tomorrow morning Kate is going to another friends house to go in to school with them, we will be on our way to London quite early. I dare not think what tomorrows scan results,  will be like, I am completely open minded about them. As always, im always hopeful and as confident as I can be but its hard to ignore the facts when Im sleeping such a lot, feeling cold and loosing weight. I have been a bit better this last week though so hope its a move in the right direction. we will see.

I wish you luck Bob.  It's hard waiting.  That's what my hubby and I are doing at the moment.  Our appointment is friday.  this will be when he finds out whether his has spread, and what they will do.  We only got our diagnosis at the beginning of March, and he had his kidney out 6 weeks later.  I've been looking at your blog and found it touching, funny and so helpful.  What we are thinking and feeling is normal!  Good Luck and Thank You.
