Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Never anything straightforward in my case. We had a good journey down to London after saying goodbye to Kate and wishing her well for her sats.  I must say both myself and Linda were a bit nervous about what we were likely to hear. We arrived, parked up and then went to see Prof Gore and his team. He opened up by saying I was doing ok but a bit of bad news as well. He is optimistic about my brain anthough it is still early days. My kidneys and chest look ok, my lungs were good, the other areas on spine unchanged which was all good. The bad news is that my Adrenal gland, which sits near to the Kidney was noted to be larger than at the last scan. He obviously is thinking tumour as he is already talking about keeping a close eye on it and possibly needing an operation to remove it. So it was a really mixed bag of news but probably in the scheme of things, hopefully not too bad. Normally I would wait two cycles of Sutent before repeat scans but Prof Gore only wants to wait after one cycle. So I start my Sutent again next week. The prof is note sure why the Sutent seems to be working well else where but not on this gland but from his reaction it needs dealing with quick and I am grateful for that, "The battle continues"

Well not too bad news Bob. I have tumours in both adrenals and have had no side effects, so far. Sutent seems to be changing the tumours by making them less dense on my ct scans so I hope your next scan shows good news.

Maybe our bodys can only cope with so much regarding sutent and your next scan will show that it's kicking all your tumours into touch! Maybe it's just a swollen adrenal gland?

They seem positive with your treatments so far which is good! Keep strong and fighting!
