Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.
  • Sir Bob, I always knew you would come back up smiling, it just took a little longer this time because of the increased treatment you had, what with the 'r/t' as well as the 's'........my love and hugs to you and the family

Hi Bob, Glad to hear your still fighting the fight you totally amaze me going to work and all, it seems to me they are not really appreciating you with what you have gone through and are still going through, i think with this illness you have got to be there to know how one feels mentally and physically. Can you take steroids Bob as they would help your appetite ive put about 1 stone since ive been on them. We had a lovely time in Devon, went to Charmouth so Jon could get some fossiles as we are taking my grandson later on this year so we were doing a bit of a recky, anyway after the 1st day of Jon smashing up half the beach he found nothing just got loads of cuts LOL but then he found out what rock to look for and he found loads, talk about a kid with a new hammer LOL.I had to go to the docs as my breathing gone bad so hes increased my steroids and water tablets he said he thinks i have fluid on my lungs, so i hope im ok for my trip to Jersey at the weekend, oh now its just been on the news the bloody volcano is getting worse. Well keep fighting the fight Bob my thoughts are with you and your family and extra ones for your Dad. Take care love Fay. X

Hi all and thanks once again for your really nice comments and thoughts. Its really nice to get feedback from my blogs and although I do not answer all personally, I would have done on the old share site as it was a lot easier then, I always follow your stories with interest. I managed a really good day at work today. I didn't have a particularly good nights sleep but managed to awake at 6.15 am and was out the door ready for my lift at seven. We got to work at 7.20 and Linda collected me after she had picked up Kate. We were home by half four which was great. A restful evening since ive been home and soon will be in bed as we have London tomorrow, scans and blood tests. We might even eat out if we feel like it. My appetite is slowly getting better, still not good, but a lot better than  it was. I have just had a good gas with my sister in America and at the moment she and Linda are taking the mickey out of me. My newest nick name being dobby after that bald little servent in Harry Potter. Nice eh.  Anyway , obviously need my beauty sleep so had better go. Hope you all have a fair week.

    Thanks Dot and all.

A really good nights sleep. I was planning on staying up and watching the election unfold but in the end though whoever gets in will probably balls up anyway so didn't bother. No work today. Linda is dropping myself and Kate off at the school while she pops off on some business before picking me up. Then we are both going to the new school Kate will be going to in September to meet up with a member of support staff who will help Kate though any difficulties she may have with my illness at school. It is important to me to get every bit of support possible in place, just in case. Linda is then out to lunch with one of her friends so not sure what ill be up to, might be a pub lunch at the local. Im looking forward to the weekend with hopefully half decent weather to perhaps go for small walks, total relaxation before scan results on Monday.

  • Good plans, Sir Bob, hope you manage everything....I agree about the election, but maybe things would have been different if all who wanted to vote had been able to! We can't even get that right! What a country!

Will be thinking of you all especially on Monday....love and hugs to all

A good day yesterday. After taking Kate to school and then a quick visit to see Lindas dad, we went to a visit at Kates school to see someone who would be kates support at school as my illness takes hold at some point. She was very nice and its so important for me to have all these measures in place. Linda went off for her girlie lunch. I went for my pub lunch and enjoyed a rather too spicy indian cuisine along with two pints of guiness.  As you can imagine, not one of my best moves but I really enjoyed it at the time. It goes without saying I had a bit of a restless night. Kate has a friend staying over and they spent the evening acting out in front of a camera. To listen to them giggling and having such fun was great. her friend slept over last night and today we are taking them out for a while. The weather here has been a bit wet overnight but looks as if it might stay dry for later on. I did also manage to cut the grass yesterday which was really good. I have been feeding it with lawn sand and its coming on a treat.
