Mothers day ideas

My mum has been told that her cancer is not curable and therefore this year's mother day could potentially be her last. I want to do something special for her but I am running out of ideas. Food is out of the question as she is on a special diet due to a high output stoma. She has had surgery last week so cannot do anything related to a spa. I have looked at some things like perfume making but it's £200 each and I unfortunately just don't have the budget for that.

I would be grateful for any ideas that anyone has Pray

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I've not been in the same position as you, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

If you don't get any replies here, it might be an idea to also join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group to see what ideas people have there.

If this is something that you'd like to do, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

While you're waiting for replies, you might like to take a look at this blog produced by Macmillan which includes some ideas of what you could do for someone with cancer to make their life more comfortable or enjoyable.

  • Hi Vezxx. I know where you're coming from, spent a lot of time thinking of suitable treats for my daughter as she has endured nearly two years of cancer treatments ... chemo, radio and three surgeries.

Would your mum like a posh manicure or pedicure? Maybe the theatre - out of town ones are not as eye-wateringly expensive as the West End.  An exhibition or a visit to stately home? Or even a 'posh' cinema, in the reclining seats, to see a film she would enjoy?

We've done all kinds of things from the hot houses at Kew Gardens (it's the orchid exhibition around now which is gorgeous) to a visit to a donkey sanctuary and the Strictly Live Tour. I'm sure you'll come up with something and your mum will enjoy the time with you, whatever you choose. xxx
