Anxiety over blood test results.

This might not be the right place, but..... I've been becoming increasingly anxious about the approaching blood test for Prostate Cancer, (PSA) test. It's a routine test following radiotherapy a year ago and even though it's not until March, I'm already very worried. There is no reason why it should not be ok. My health anxiety started with emergency surgery for bowel cancer six years ago, (all clear now,) and the prostate cancer took over from that! I am in the PC group, but this is more of a mental problem. Any strategies? I can't just 'forget it' until nearer the due date and expect my anxiety will worsen during February.

  • PET was all clear as far as lymphoma goes but there's a lesion on one lung they want assessed by a lung specialist.

It's been there since I was first diagnosed and they weren't especially concerned about it back in January.

I'm not thrilled about the possibility of a lung biopsy and will take a lot of convincing to go that route rather than watch and wait.

  • Time flies! PSA test probably next Wednesday, can't put it off any longer. My logic says it should be ok but the 'what if' part is surfacing again. NZ has another outbreak of CV in the North of the country, over 100 active cases. Best wishes everyone!

  • Any news yet?

  • Lung lesion is primary lung cancer for which I start treatment in a few weeks.  Treatment will be 5 fractions of SBRT over a week and a half (I decided against surgery).  Cure rate is 90%.

If all goes well I can put all of this behind me by the end of October.

  • Sounds positive. Excellent cure rate!

  • Indeed.

The scary thing is that but for the lymphoma I would not have found out about the lung cancer.  Silver linings, and all that.

  • And it was a good result! Locum Dr kindly looked it up and actually rang me. They must have told him about me. Just to make sure, I rang the next day and a nurse contacted me with the same result. Now I'm waiting for it to be put online, so I can look at it. I knew on Monday and now it's Thursday, Takes longer than I thought.

  • So pleased for you.

  • Huh! I waited 10 days and finally rang the Lab to be told that they had set the results to my previous Doctor. That was sorted and my real Dr put them on my patient portal. I did know but wanted to have tings done properly.

  • Guess what? It’s worry time again with the test in about 2 weeks. I’ll read over the suggestions for coping again. IF this one is ok I’m tempted to see if yearly tests will be ok. CV here seems contained with the country on L1. Keep safe everyone!
