Anxiety over blood test results.

This might not be the right place, but..... I've been becoming increasingly anxious about the approaching blood test for Prostate Cancer, (PSA) test. It's a routine test following radiotherapy a year ago and even though it's not until March, I'm already very worried. There is no reason why it should not be ok. My health anxiety started with emergency surgery for bowel cancer six years ago, (all clear now,) and the prostate cancer took over from that! I am in the PC group, but this is more of a mental problem. Any strategies? I can't just 'forget it' until nearer the due date and expect my anxiety will worsen during February.

  • Ok, worry over. A good result!

  • I’m still here! My last psa was 0.83 which is great. I had a bladder ultrasound recently and not voiding completely. Also a few weeks ago I really felt like I needed a pee but took 2 hours to produce a sample to test. No infection. Dr thought it mght be urethral strictures from the rt. Saw the Urologist and he was happy and said I could have yearly psa tests now which is a big relief. Next one in March. The bad news is that NZ has new community COVID cases and the whole country is on L4 lockdown again. First community cases since February. Keep safe everyone.

  • And now it’s June 2022. My latest tests were all good with a psa drop from .99 to .68. But I still start to worry about a month before, even counting the days until it’s due. Then I pester the surgery for results and they end up ringing me, which is very kind of them especially considering how busy they are. Every result since my emergency bowel cancer surgery scare has been ok. I just wish I could stop worrying about the ‘what ifs!’

  • Fantastic result.  I'm so pleased for you.
