Hello,
I have been a carer for all but four of the last 60 years, since I was 12 years old. Generally, I have learned to negotiate most aspects and the odd problem I couldn't find a solution for, I knew where to ask for help - family, friends or, very rarely, from the local authority of our doctor's practice.
But this situation In in now is something else and there seems to be very little support for carers locally now and, being older, most of our family and friends have moved away or are no longer living. We live 5 miles from the nearest shop and over half a mile from our nearest neighbour who is home during the day.
My husband is autistic and has PTSD and I have MS and lupus and am registered blind so , though I have some sight, I can't have a licence and would be a range to the world if I did.
Transport to our doctor 15 miles away and two hospitals, one 40 miles away and 65 miles away with a man who finds constant chatter or a radio playing almost unbearable and worrying how to collect or drop a 9 year old from his school bus stopping place 2 miles from our house on the days when his grandpa has treatment is a major anxiety too.
But we are doing what we can to stay sane! It is just great to know there is a community here where people may have ideas, or just a little encouragement to offer in order to support one another, so I thought I'd join in!
Hi HappyFarmer
Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.
With all those years of experience I am sure you will be able to provide some helpful insite to people on here.

Our son is autistic and I remember especially when he was in primary school the challenges to getting him to and from school. The council arranged a taxi for him when he went to secondary school but then of course someone had to be home waiting until he was collected and again when he returned.
<<hugs>>
