Hello it’s been a wee while since I posted. My 86 yr old dad was diagnosed with lung ca back in may/June time with his other issues they decided there was no course of treatment and they were and are unsure how fast the cancer would progress so basically feel like he was sent home with a “I’m sorry We don’t know how or when this will progress but it will” and since coming from hospital his right lung there is little air entry and GP has now sent him for 2 chest X-rays in the past four months but all it seems to show is that the right lung isn’t working properly the lesion is in the top of this lung. His breathing is getting worse but his blood oxygen levels are in the 90s whenever the GP or DN check them.
Hi Cadia
Sorry to hear this, I know how it can feel easier to be "doing something" but it is also important to balance the effects of treatment on people. A message that has been suggested is to listen closely to the oncologist when they "recommend" or "offer" treatment and the list of side effects of treatment can be enough to make some people decide that it is not for them.
People do manage with only one lung - my wife has had six lung collapses so it is fortunate we have a spare, breathing though with even a single lung problem can be tricky.
It is good to hear that the medics are keeping a check on him and hopefully if he does need some more active support that will swing into place quickly.
<<hugs>>
Steve
