My mom is suffering terribly with mouth ulcers and sore throat meaning she can barely eat anything. Has anyone got any suggestions to ease her suffering?

  • Hi

Sorry to hear about your mum, it can be such a worry. There are a number of suggestions in the leaflet here that might prove helpful. I note the bit about talking to the oncology team if the tips do not work as it they might want to add some nutrition supplement so that your mom has the stamina to take on the course of chemo.

    Hope some of that helps

Thanks Steve. She does have some mouth wash but it is so horrible to see her in so much discomfort on top of everything else! We are seeing her dr on Monday so we'll ask them if there is anything else we can do.

Thanks for the advice, support and hugs!

Try the clear protein drinks very cold, drink thru a straw so liquids by pass most of the  mouth and go more into the throat. My son, age 33 has ALL and gets these terrible mouth sores. Face rash too.  He's been in treatment about year with 3 more years to go.

  • Hi

Sorry to hear your mum is suffering. Something very simple to try is ice lollipops. My mum used them during her chemo and said they helped so I then got them for my husband. He says it really helps. I get the pure fruit juice ones so that there’s a slight element of nutrition as well. I know you say your mum has a mouth wash - is if Difflam. If not that one is definitely worth a try.
    Hope this helps
