My husband was told in August 2020 he had oesophageal cancer. In November 2020 he was told he also had high grade follicular lymphoma. This month May 2021 he’s been told his cancer has spread to his brain. They don’t know which cancer has spread there. I’m confused, shattered, overwhelmed, bewildered.. Any thoughts or advice welcome

  • Hi

Welcome to the community, though as ever sorry to hear about your husband. Life does often have a habit of piling things on top of us and your reactions are totally normal - on here we see this all the time and we have the collected wisdom of many in our pages Looking after someone with cancer especially the bits about coping and around who supports us.

I did a living with less stress course - a key lesson for me was learning to deal with things better as they happen, all to often I was trying to work out what would happen when my wife was gone rather and just adding to my issues, some people can refer to this as pre-grief. Another useful lesson was controlled breathing - when something happens it can help to take a moment to take a deep breath or two before coming forward to tackle it and can help to stop the feelings of being overwhelmed. Bewildered is also normal - a huge amount of information is suddenly given to us and then we are asked to make potentially life changing decisions. Transcendental meditation though was just not my thing.

Welcome to our club - we wish we had no members but we all understand - and it is difficult but we can do it together.

    <<hugs>>

Thanks very much for responding. Yes pre grief, that hits the nail on the head. Thinking about the future instead of the present. Looking at him and wondering what’s going to happen. Helpful suggestions thanks
