Hello everyone! My husband is due to start capecitabine tablets and daily radiotherapy for 5 weeks and just wondering if anyone can recommend things to have ready such as unperfumed soap/shower gels, own flannels, gloves to deal with bodily fluids…We have the anti-diarrhoea and anti-sickness tablets as well as the skin barrier cream but wondering if anything else might be good to have to hand. I’m probably being a bit overly concerned but would rather be prepared!
Thank you in advance.

  • Hi thete. The nurses should do at least weekly checks whilst hes having radiotherapy, and will advise on skin care, food etc. My husband had 5 weeks daily and tolerated it quite well except that sadly it didnt work. Same with chemo. They will check he is well enough, do regular blood tests etc and manage side effects. He does need to be honest though so its good if you are there at those check ups.

He did have a mouth wash as well, depends on where the radiotherapy is maybe.

Its a tough regime so do lean on anyone you can for support, for us the extra travelling was exhausting enough (2  hours away)

I hope it works for him. X

  • Thank you so much for your reply. Yes, we are gearing up for the regime and we are 50 mins away from the hospital. Very apprehensive.
So sorry it didn’t work for your husband.

  • Oh ge did yse a basic emollient cream on the area being targeted, they will prescribe if irs beeded, obv you dont want any broken skin or burning.

Oh and take something to do in case of waits, we had many. Drink plenty, both of you, my husbnad had to.
