Hi everyone,

My mum was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal lung cancer with malignant pleural effusion which had spread to the kidneys last week.

I suppose this makes me her carer now.

I am looking for advice from other people caring for a family member with terminal cancer and how to go about daily life again? I suffer with mild OCD and the lack of control i have in the matter is driving me insane but i am trying my best to put on a brave face and go about life as normal for Mum.

Mum is by far my best friend and i would be utterly lost without her in my life.

How does everybody cope with this shock?

  • Hi and welcome to the Online Community, although I'm sorry to read about your mum. You will find a lot of support in the supporting someone with incurable cancer group, click here to go there. Maggie's centres, click here are wonderful with helping carers cope with the stress and our helpline, on 0808 808 0000, is manned by experts who are very understanding. It's open 8am-8pm every day. Taking care of yourself will be important in the coming months, you're in the right place for chatting to others in the same situation (especially in the group I mentioned). Hang in there, you'll find things get easier as you get to grips with the shock and plans are in place for your own support as well as your mum's.

    Love and hugs, LoobyLou x
