I'm unsure how to use this site or if I'm writing in the right place but I'm giving it a try with hope... my mum got diagnosed with lung cancer around Feb this year she's had 5 sessions of radiotherapy and now still waiting for a scan to see if it's helped but she's telling me she's in pain and has no energy she's giving up hope saying she knows it's spread Imy unsure what to do as she is due her scan end of October which is the 6 months she's had to wait to check on it... should I be worried about this or is this normal? I don't know how to make her comfortable or if I should be contacting the hospital I wouldn't forgive myself if I dint act on this but just don't know which way to go with it.. its breaking my heart... any guidence would be much appreciated
Thanks Laura x
Hi Laura,
So sorry to hear about your mum. Sending big hugs. Its always so hard to see someone you love in pain.
My mum has also had radiotherapy and they have said it can feel more painful for up to three/four weeks after. Im no doctor but thats what we were told.
If your mum is in pain, its always best to contact a professional to help control it. Ive called my mums nurses a million times for anything and everything and they have always been so helpful. Calling Macmillan can really help too.
Big hugs xxx

Hi Laura
I’m so sorry that you and your Mum are going through all this, I know at times it’s completely overwhelming and my heart goes out to you both. My husband has had radiotherapy twice, the last was targeted and he was also advised of pain for several week afterwards and can make people tired. The radiotherapy carry's on working for some time, which is why they scan several months later, so they know how effective the radiotherapy has been.
However, I don’t think any medical professional would want your Mum to be in pain. I spoke to a Doctor at the hospital where my husband is receiving treatment, he prescribed a morphine based painkiller for my husband, as it would be kinder to his bowel than naproxen or co-codamol, I have since had it added to his repeat prescriptions at our local doctors, it works. Pain wears people down, your Mums dealing with enough, do try to speak to her doctors, they can probably prescribe something to help.
Your Mum is so blessed to have you there caring for her.....I know as a Mum myself that will mean the world to her. Sending big big hugs......Budge
Hi , I second what others would say about contacting her oncology team. My husband suffered a lot of pain and loss of energy after radiotherapy and still does a year on. Some people sail through it, others go through the mill. Your mum should have a named specialist nurse you can call for advice as well. Call someone soon if only to put your mind at rest.
Hugs, LoobyLou x
