My partner has newly diagnosed glioblastoma and is currently receiving radiotherapy and chemotherapy. This is devastating news for our family as we have 4 young children. I am there every step of the way with my partner I attend every appointment with them go in and support my partner every day when having the mask put on for radiotherapy and only leave for the treatment. Sadly on Saturday my grandma passed away having caught covid 19 in hospital after breaking her hip. I was very close to my grandma and have been unable to say goodbye due to covid 19. The day I found out she had passed away my partner was not very nice to me and I understand glioblastoma is a horrible diagnosis to have. But I have not been allowed to be upset about my grandma. My partner said I am selfish as they have cancer and I should be grateful as I have life. I was just hoping for some advice on managing this behaviour as I am not able to show any emotion at home and in view of lock down I am not working as the risk of bringing covid 19 back home to my partner. Sorry for the long message and hope you and your loved ones are all keeping well. X

  • Hi , I'm sorry to hear how things are going. Have you seen the Glioblastoma booklet? It's quite large, with over 150 pages but it can be downloaded. It might be helpful if your partner could read it (a printed version can be ordered free of charge) as it talks about feelings in relationships but getting him to read it might not be easy. You could call his specialist nurse for advice or his GP, it might be that someone else needs to speak to him. Perhaps in the meantime you could find some time in a separate room to grieve the loss of your grandma. Your emotions are important too so I hope you find some space to channel your feelings and the helpline is there if you'd like to speak to one of our experts on 0800 808 0000 8am-8pm every day.

    Love and hugs,

If you find dust in my house, write your name in it. When the signatures overlap I'll get the polish.
