My husband has been in remission for nearly 2 years from stage 4 bowel cancer.

He has 6monthly scans and check ups. Just after Christmas he started to lose weight, he was sent for blood test and there were no markers but still the weight kept coming off. As a scan was planned for April he was told to wait.

Scan last Monday afternoon, the next morning nurse had messaged me to see if we would like to bring his appointment forward from the 6th May to the next day! By the time I could reply all the appointments had been filled and we now have one for Monday morning at 9am.

I'm trying very hard to put it to the back of my mind and not go down the route of worse case scenario but I'm struggling today. I'm keeping his spirits up but I just cant seem to practise my own advice.

I guess the nurse offering us an earlier appointment with the consultant has scared the life out of us. I want to know the results but scared at the same time.

Scanxiety, another experience for us all.

  • Hi , I know exactly what you mean. Anxiety goes sky high at such times, no matter how much we try to stay calm. My method is to look around and name things; curtains, lamp, mirror, sky clouds and so on. It does help to ground any anxiety for me. But often, they offer an earlier appointment just because an earlier one wasn't available when you needed it.The waiting is horrible, but take the time to enjoy each other's company, concentrate on that sharing feeling you have when your other half is around, make nice meals, anything to keep your emotions grounded. I'll be thinking of you both tomorrow morning.

    Love and hugs,
