Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hello Sarah

My quote comes from a badge given to me when I was first diagnosed. My grand daughter Emily gave me the badge when she was 7 and said "here's a badge to help you through your cancer grumps - remember these  6 words and don't worry - you will be fine"

    It's worked so far Rofl.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Hi Sarah, Yes I did that too, looked for quotes and wrote them down! I did write where some of them were from or who said them but I forgot toa write where that one came from, so thanks!

  • Annette, do you ever listen to the words of a song and think, 'this sums up my story '.

The song "He ain't heavy, he's my brother" by the Hollies sums everything up.

"The road is long, with many a winding turn, that leads us to who knows where..."

Does anyone else have any song lyrics that mean something to them?

    Steve (SteveCam)

  • Hi Steve.

What a great topic to get the juices (including tears) flowing,  and He Ain't Heavy is indeed pertinent to many folks' cancer journeys.

One I like to listen to is The Beatles' Here Comes the Sun containing the lyrics "it's all right" as I like to think that will be the eventual outcome for all.  It's cheerful and catchy, too.

Another I really like is by Green Day, I Hope You Had the Time of Your Life (Good Riddance).  This one is probably a little off the wall, as it's really a breakup song, but reading into the lyrics and interpreting them to suit, can resonate for some.  In my H's case, cancer is having the time of its life with him atm, but we're aiming to bid it good riddance - in other words, sod off!

    Take care all.

  • Gill, I hope your husband's Cancer will go away (to be polite).  At least you had some better news from the oncologist "curative" and "clear margins".  Something to build on.

I know that on "good" days I think of certain songs, and on"bad" days, totally obscure ones.  The bad days for me are getting less.

    Take Care

    Steve (SteveCam)

  • Thank you, Steve.

Yes, we're definitely holding on to the oncologist's encouraging and positive words.  And what a lovely fella he was, too!  He made our day.

Here's hoping your bad days will all become good ones very soon.

Now I'm thinking of songs that are uplifting and my mind's buzzing!  You've certainly taken it away from negative thoughts and I like it.

I woke up this morning feeling good and as calm as a mill pond.  I reckon H is feeling better as well as his early retirement officially starts tomorrow.  I've been bolstering him that soon he'll be able to relax in a comfy recliner and watch as much sport as he likes.  Recliner first, then Sky installed for new football season - can't wait!

    Enjoy your Sunday.

  • Got the Sky in for Leeds next season?  Hope they do better than the teams that came up last season.  Sunderland can go back down!

    Steve (SteveCam)

  • We've not got Sky yet but I'll get it installed before the kickoff in early August.

Lol about Sunderland and I agree.  I was actually rooting for the Blades to go up, mainly because my BiL is a dyed in the wool supporter.  My sister hates football (they live in Sheffield) and resents it that all he does is watch sports all day long.  I swear he'd watch tiddlywinks and elastic twist if they were televised!

Anyroad, I'm relaxed if Leeds only stay up next season and it's mainly due to VAR.  I detest i!!  Last time we went up it was impossible to celebrate a goal instantly.  We were like, will it stand, it was definitely on-side, etc and by the time a decision had been made, the moment had gone.  I much prefer the EFL if I'm honest but the extra cash£££ will be handy.  Time will tell.

I was a bit of a villain in the 70s, my gobby attitude was finely honed on the terraces of Elland Road.  Halcyon days...

Are you an Oldham supporter?  If yes I wish them all the very best in their endeavours.

    Gill xx

  • Newcastle through and through!  I was cheering Oldham on for Brian I even cheered Sunderland on (first and only time) for Ulls, who passed away a few weeks ago.  It's his funeral tomorrow.

Don't tell anyone but I actually wanted Man Utd to beat Villa on the last game of the season.  They did us a huge favour, bet their fans hated it!

Oh, and we actually won something!!!
