Are you having trouble sleeping?
Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.
“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

Hang on in there Darren. I'm not experienced with all this yet but I have a feeling all these feelings are all part of it and I've been told it's important to stay positive.
I start my first chemo session on Wednesday so understand the worries of that. Remember you have a team around you who are going to help you through this, get you on the mend and you'll go on to make memories.
There's also a bunch of us on here to chat to and I have found that really comforting and helpful since my diagnosis 2 weeks ago. There's always someone around!
Now go and watch Stargate SG1 (I am none the wiser!) and try and rest your eyes for a bit. Things are always a bit clearer in the daylight and after some rest.

Aw Darren, that was pretty insensitive but I doubt the guy meant it personally so try not to dwell on it. And yes, you're still young and will definitely want to make memories for yourself, so I do understand how his thoughtless words must have gripped you.
There are a fair few here who are waiting to have chemo or have gone through it, so maybe they can help you with that. I hope you've got pain meds too, as that will keep you from settling properly.
I don't know what cancer you have, but if you take a look on the site you should be able to find a group pertinent to yourself. If or when you do, you'll be able to connect with others who'll probably share your own diagnosis and a similar treatment plan. You might also find others nearer your age, so it's worth a try.
Keep posting here whenever you like though, as we chat about many things and also give tips on how to get some kip! Sending hugs xxx
Hey Julie, all the very best for your first session on Wednesday sweetheart. I hope it won't keep you awake tomorrow night but you know we'll be here if you need a chat, or even getting bored off to sleep might be in order.
Fingers crossed your OH settled back in at work today, and you were ok with getting him from under your feet! You probably didn't miss his snorting and snuffling. Big hugs hon xxx
Hi
I'm sorry that you've found yourself here and the pain and worry is keeping you awake.
I worried about the chemo when I was facing it but the nurses at the unit were lovely and did everything they could to help me feel at ease. It took about 6-7 hours each time when I had mine so I took things to do with me - crochet, a book, my earphones to listen to music, which helped pass the time.
When is your chemo due to start?
I hope you got some sleep.

Good morning, NPDarren.
I am Jamie one of the online champions. My details are in my profile and normally find me in the Kidney cancer group. But I am always happy to support and chat to all. There is lots of support and you are not alone in this with many of us experiencing the same or similar thoughts too.
It is a worrying time. The anxiety, lack of sleep, the constant thoughts racing through our minds. Unfortunately it is all normal and part of the journey, and at the moment for you it all seems guess work and not sure which direction your going or how your treatment may affect you.
It would be good idea to put some details in your profile if you feel happy to. There are many different forums for specific cancers and other groups which you may find supportive too. We can then try and help you find the support group.
This group is brilliant to, as it personally helped me in the early stages of my own journey when I was not sleeping and getting about 3 to 4 hours a night. Everyone in here is amazing as you have seen so far.
So please let me know if there is anything else I can do.
All the best,
Jamie
I do love a bit of Downton Abbey. Been to highclere Castle and had afternoon tea about 4 years ago. It was brilliant day out and to see where it was all filmed.
I hope you feeling okay and fingers crossed for tomorrow x
