Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Thanks Helen-we’ve had a truly awful few months, so it will be good to see sunshine and revisit our usual haunts.

  • Hi Sarah. Sorry, I had OH's care to do and then I couldn't log in but I'm back.

Hey, I went there in 1996 and it was lovely, apart from being with my ex! Anyway, we stayed in a villa with a pool but I'd honestly have preferred a caravan near Bridlington, but that's just me as I'm no traveller.

Fingers crossed your OH can get all his procedures done in good time, then you can start looking forward to your holiday - fabulous! Tell you what, you both really deserve one, so hopefully everything will go to plan. That time we went I point blank refused a ride on the camels, as I felt very sorry for them. I know that'll be off the menu for you, so just soak up the sun and do plenty of relaxing. Bet you can't wait! xxx

  • I would never go on a camel, Gill, even if I could get my leg over! I feel sorry for them too…not my scene at all. I wouldn’t ever go to see dolphins or whales in captivity either because it’s just not right. I feel for the animals and that they’re not there for our entertainment.

I feel really guilty that our travels are so limited now because of my mobility. We stick with Costa Teguise because it’s flat and easy to get around and we go to the same hotel every time because it’s so good. I also know where all the good toilets are in bars and which places won’t involve stairs! We like to sit at a cafe or bar and watch the world go by.

We’ve been all over the world in the past-but the only time in a caravan was when we had a campervan to go through New Zealand South Island. It was brilliant! Our favourite destination is Bali-we’ve been 3 times now and are very keen to return but I’m just not sure how I’d manage the journey nowadays. Never say never though!

  • Indeed never say never, as you might win the lottery and then hire a private jet! Stranger things happen, but you'll have to play the lottery first to achieve that elusive win.

I think I'll have to change Sarah the Bruce to Sarah Whicker as you've been all over the place! Your holiday albums must be packed - just imagining your suitcases with stickers all over them, or was that a thing in the olden days? Lol!

I must have had too much kip last night as I've been in a silly mood all day. Add to that yours and Kez's fab news for even more feel good vibes. The Scottish lassies have ruled the thread today, so bravo for giving us all a lift! Hugs all round xxx

  • I passed the 'Dental Fit to Start Treatment ' assessment today, so I'll take that as a win as well! At least there's one part of my body that's not letting me down right now!! JoyGrin

  • Aw more fab news Julie! That's one thing you can cross off the list, so well done you.

I think we'll have to call today 'terrific Tuesday ' as the mood's been really nice today, so I hope we'll have more of the same for the rest of this week. Do you reckon you'll be able to sleep tonight or are the meds making you hyper? I hope they'll settle down soon and let you rest properly sweetheart xxx

  • Well, you might be surprised Gill, but we can get a fortnight in Bali in a 4 star hotel cheaper than it cost us going to Zante last year. And it’s really cheap to eat out there. It’s just that it’s not really geared up for the disabled, but it’s a beautiful place.

We have an eye on a house in a local village if we win the lottery but there might be money left over for an exotic holiday! I remember Whicker’s World in the day…still remember his voice and moustache! And I remember stickers on suitcases. We usually get a fridge magnet everywhere we go, so the fridge freezer is covered.lots of happy memories. Everywhere from Hornsea to Australia is there…lots of good memories.

  • That's lovely Sarah, and we've got loads of fridge magnets too, including Hornsea and Australia - we got the former, OH's old boiler mother the latter. She's been to Australia three times and I wish she'd have stayed there!

I am surprised about Bali as I thought it would cost a fortune, but I'm guessing the fares would be expensive? I like the sound of the house in the village, but our dream place is to live by the sea. On another smaller group I post on, three out of five of us live on the coast and I'm wild with envy! I know you've got the same desire too, so I hope the dream comes to pass for one of us. Never say never once again hon xxx

  • I think they are kicking in a bit but have given me a bit of energy today to do some very light sorting around the house. Nothing major and definitely pacing myself...sorted my sewing box!!

In bed now, so hopefully will get off soon. Think the steroids have made me warm up too (no temperature thankfully). Just feeling nice so toasty.

Think next week will be very different for me so am making the most of this one! Before the main battle starts!!

    Julie xx

  • Aw you do right sweetheart, and I really hope they don't make you feel too ropey. I think you're being really brave and taking everything in your stride, so hats off to you girl! You could teach some men a thing or two, I'm sure of that. And you've stuck to your word and sorted your sewing box! Small steps but you'll get there my lovely.

Well Julie, you relax and hopefully you'll nod off before long, as you put in long night shift the other day. Sending warmest hugs, but not too warm as you're already toasty! Sleep well when you're ready pet xxx
