Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hello Julie, I've been on the bladder cancer forum for over 2 years. The members there helped me when I ran in to some disturbing recurrent symptoms. 3am is fairly usual for me. It makes the lonely nights seem less so, even enjoyable if I'm listening to music. Unfortunately the consequence of going to bed so late is that I am not keen to get up until at least 10am. Living alone means I can get away with peculiar hours!

  • PS: A few minutes ago I discovered a lone mince pie hiding in the larder. It has gone to a good cause, even if makes the medics frown.

  • My insomnia seems to start at 1.30am every night, like an internal alarm clock goes off. Fast asleep and then wide awake grrrrrrr

    xx

  • Have you found ways of pulling your mind away from cancer?  Sometimes even a brief distraction is welcome. I hope you are not in too much pain or discomfort. Having physical issues on top of the mental battering does often require outside help. I've heard good reports about the Macmillan contact phone service where they talk you through problems and offer appropriate guidance. This forum is also a good source of support, with good listeners, a touch of humour now and then, plus the opportunity for members to gain a different perspective from others.

  • Love mince pies although nothing is really floating my boat food wise these days.

I will give the music idea a go Ray, see if it helps, any recommendations on relaxing tracks? X

  • What a find Ray!

We've still got Christmas cake which I've been eating with great enthusiasm the last couple of days. I don't usually bother with it but can't stop eating it now!

  • I have found I'm craving the opposite types of food I did before...and it's not very healthy food I'm afraid!

  • Hello Pepper. My taste in music is wide but I usually come back to old favourites (because I'm old Grinning) e.g. John Lennon, 'Nobody loves you when you're down and out' but I like a lot of Japanese popular music and Chinese artists such as Karen Mok.

  • I’m struggling to eat as so stressed my appetite has disappeared. Fruit is my saviour as it’s easy to grab a banana and stuff it down.
I’m no sure if my constant belly ache is though lack of food or as I suspect my cancer spreading.
waiting for answers and any kind of treatment is the worst feeling in the world as I’m sure you guys are aware xxx

  • I only found out I had cancer Tuesday so it's still very much at the top of my mind (still can't believe I'm referring to myself there!)

I've been looking for series on Netflix to look at to take my mind off it. I enjoyed Bridgerton but I only had 4 episodes to watch. I tried The Crown but it's too miserable so still looking!

I'm not in too much pain. Just a bit achy, no worse than last week. If it wasn't for feeling unusually tired, I wouldn't have noticed anything.
