Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Aw Sarah, that's better news about your OH and you do sound more upbeat yourself, but like you say it'll be more inspiring once any potential surgery is planned. In the meantime, make sure he rests up and keeps eating his beige diet, as his strength needs to build back up.

The link is fab and I'd recommend it to any here who'd like a relaxing voice to listen to. It certainly made me feel woozy, in a nice way, but Knockout drops could be on the cards! Just joking but I'll let you get on now, and hoping your wheelchair passes its MOT when it goes in for service. Have a good weekend lovely xxx

  • Well, one of the mudguards from the wheelchair is still in the boot from getting knocked off, so they’ll need to sort that out! I have a carbon, power assisted chair which is brilliant, but it’s not as sturdy as other types-you have to sacrifice sturdiness for it being so light. But it’s easy to damage it putting it in and out of the boot. Luckily I just lease it under the motobility scheme so the service and repairs don’t cost me anything. And it turns on a sixpence which is good for me getting around in town especially.

Hopefully you have a good Saturday, and catch up with you later.

    Sarah xx

  • I’m awaiting almost certain diagnosis and my anxiety is terrible. It’s not that late but I already know I won’t sleep tonight. Anyone else feeling similar?

  • im hopping to be able to sleep tonight maybe try doing some grounding technology.???prays u get some sleep

  • Thanks maybe will drop off eventually just got that restless feeling. Slight frown

  • Good evening Amma.

I am sorry you are struggling and not able to settle your mind. I am guessing you still have sometime to wait for results? It is a difficult time waiting for those all important results.

The only advice I can offer, would be try not to force it. It will make you more annoyed and then frustrated when you keep laying there. I would get up and watch something really random. Then if you start to drift and the anxiety lessens a little you could try again.

  • Ok thank you I will try that.

yes still a while to wait; I feel so het up.

  • Like you waiting is the worst part and your brain can fill the void with the most awful castastrophising.

I found that cutting back on caffeine (I love my flat whites) really early on in the day. Getting some physical exercise or movement in, depending on how well I felt. And creating a routine of the best sleep hygiene I could helps. And like Jamie says, don't force it, if you're lead there with a head full of thoughts, get up and break the cycle.

But the only way to resolve it is to actually get some answers. I hope that you get some soon
