Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hi Willow. I've no idea why your posts get deleted hon. Maybe you're writing things that are taboo - I dunno, but stick to the basics as there's Homebird and me about. See how it goes hon xxx

  • Thanks for that lovely and I'll open the link soon. You're a star Star xxx

  • Aw Willow, I don't want you to be sad. Why not tell me what's on your mind, just don't include any words that could be picked up as inappropriate. I'm listening if you want to go for it xxx

  • Well girls, I'm hoping you're both getting some rest now, and I'm going to do the same.

Willow, although your posts came through they've been deleted now, so maybe get in touch with the mods hon.

Homebird, I'm hoping you've settled down as best you can now sweetheart. Night all xxx

  • I find them very soothing to listen to and choice of man or woman's voice. Help me feel a bit calmer but still can't completely ignore my "sensation" though not a headache or painful. Maybe just need to listen to the meditations on repeat.

  • Morning Gill

I was just looking back through the thread and I can’t see any posts last night from Willow, although there is a new thread she started in the cancer chat group, just not in this “awake” thread.

You're right that sometimes certain words might get picked up, but it’s best for a member to speak to the mods if they think there’s any problem. They will know why posts have been deleted, if that’s happened, but none of us can discuss this in the main forum, and that includes champs! I’m sorry she didn’t come back to you when you were trying to help, and hope you’ll hear back from her this morning.

  • Morning Sarah Blush Yes, I realised Willow's posts may have been under review before deletion, but the two that came through didn't contain any trigger words. I'll look for her thread on the chat forum, so thanks for that love.

I did listen to the meditation stuff that Homebird linked and it was brilliant - very soothing and relaxing but guess what? It couldn't get me off, even with the dulcet tones of the readers, so I guess this night owl is beyond help! Never mind, as I tend to function better on small amounts of kip.

How are you doing sweetheart? I sincerely hope your OH is doing better and recovering from his illness. Fingers crossed for you both xxx

  • Hi Gill

We are doing pretty here thank you! OH still off sick, but due to go back to the consultant in a couple of weeks to get the next steps. Not so much pain, and no more emergency admissions thank goodness-eating a very bland beige diet is helping a bit we think. But desperate to get surgery planned in to get this sorted once and for all.

I haven’t listened to the link but I wish I had found something like that before my own surgeries. Sorry it didn’t get you off to sleep but maybe there will have been some effect on your subconscious brain somewhere. I used to listen to mindfulness stuff when I was extra anxious and it made you concentrate on the moment and your breathing so I did find that good.

But I had no problem sleeping last night-I had my arm round my little cat, and drifted off all cosy with her head on my hand.

Heading out in a bit to see if I can finally get my phone fixed-still begin out of action since before new year, and my wheelchair is getting picked up on Tuesday to go for its annual service-yes, that really is a thing-so I just have today to get to the phone shop. Hopefully get a coffee while we’re out for a treat! At least it’s not raining here….yet!
