Are you having trouble sleeping?
Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.
“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

I'm certainly having trouble sleeping tonight. I will have the results of my lumpectomy / lymph nodes later today and sleep eluded.me for a good few hours now. I've been reading an old post about toxic positivity. I do feel positive most of the time but I also feel quite mentally violent towards people who tell me I am, or have to be strong, positive or fight. I feel much better on the days when I am positive - but hey! Who can manage that all the time? At least I will know the 'plan'. Fingers crossed.
Hello, new here 32 yr old male.
Have/had stomach cancer (tumour) surgery - partial gastrectomy 15th Oct (3/4 of my stomach cut out). Just had my 2nd treatment of FLOT (2/8 total)
sleeping seems to be somewhat challenging first few days after treatment. I get down alright then wake up 3/4 am and that’s me still nap during the day if needs be of course.
maybe pop a little melatonin to see me through?
any advise welcome, sending positive vibes Thankyou
Good morning. No wonder you cannot sleep. It is very difficult when you are feeling under threat. I have had a lot of waiting for results this year. I completely relate to what you are saying about the comments from people. If i hear you are strong. It will be fine. Jyst be positive I will flip. I like you am positive and determined but we are allowed to feel scared and vulnerable too. I sincerely hope your results are good. Take care.
I used to use them when I was away working travelling around in different time zones. They work for sure!
Definition - Melatonin is a natural hormone your brain produces in darkness to regulate your sleep-wake cycle (circadian rhythm), signaling the body it's time to sleep, and is also available as a supplement to help with sleep issues like insomnia or jet lag
Just want to make sure they’ll be no nasty effects with treatment before I send one down.
I also take daily vitamins amongst some natural
- Irish Sea moss caps (Natural)
- Mycelium 9in1 mushroom capsules (Natural)
- A-Z multi vitamins
- Vitamin D (2000 UID)
- B12 1mg for now
(I’m not saying take any of these, DYOR ALWAYS)
These all tend to help promote brain function and aid sleep. Maybe being the first night after treatment, amongst being still hooked up to my pump for 24hrs afterward too and running out of my two natural supplements for a few days (re-up be here tomorrow) probably hasn’t helped my sleeping tonight.
ah well it’ll get better again tomorrow I’m sure
EDIT - it will get better ! Train that brain
Morning Spyroax and a very warm welcome to our group.
You've certainly been through the mill but have a good self-help routine going, so good for you my friend. I take vits D and B12 - they don't help with sleeping, unfortunately, but are great for my nails!
I'm my OH's carer and it's a big challenge; I rang 111 for advice last night as I was very concerned about a symptom he had. The guy I spoke to put in a referral to our GP so I'll be on to it as soon as the surgery opens.
Hoping you're feeling ok and have as good a day as possible xxx
Morning Tricolour and a very warm welcome to our group to you, too.
A lot of us here have problems with sleeping, all enhanced with perpetual worry which doesn't help at all. Always waiting for results, hoping to get through every day with no hiccups becomes a way of life, albeit an anxious one. But like yourself, we're determined and keep going, just hoping for the best.
Sending you hugs xxx
Morning Gill
Hope all is ok with your OH when you see the doctor. Being a carer is something I never knew was so hard until I understood properly, way after my surgery and treatments, what my OH had gone through looking after me. The worry and the fear which never left them, sitting on the stairs trying to hear if I was still breathing, dreading every day and what it might bring.
I never knew any of that at the time-I only knew love, care and calmness, hands red raw from scrubbing multiple times a day to ensure I didn’t develop any infections. You are all our own angels, keeping us safe and doing it all without complaint. Let us know how you get on later,
Sarah xx
