Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hi

I had the same issue after my hysterectomy and ended up sleeping propped up or on our reclining sofa until I could comfortably sleep on my side.

I hope it's worked the last couple of nights.

  • Hi all from the lovely French Town of Sainte Suzanne et Chammes. We're heading north now.

I've had a couple of awake nights, last night I had terrible neuropathy pins & needles in my right toes, it made me jumpJoy

I hope you're all as well as can be.

  • Hiya Helen and wowsers!  I didn't know you were still away, so good for you.  Ooh, I'd be filling up on baguettes, laden with butter, cheese and ham.  I love that combo and French baguettes have that certain je ne sais quoi.

Well, let's see if I can clue you up on what's been going on here - Eddie's part way through his world tour, Steve's been appointed as manager of Newcastle Utd on £250.0000 per week and I won £15 on a scratch card two days ago (the last revelation is true).

Hopefully, the neuropathy stops plaguing you soon but I sympathise as the pair of us have got it.  Maybe it's the weather?  Anyway hon, enjoy the rest of your holiday to the full Full moon with face Hugs xxx

  • Hi stranger, Wow getting away for a month is amazing, and thank you for your good wishes Helen, but we were home from Glasgow on Monday, after a lovely day meeting with two of our friends from the forum, and right now my partner, Sheila, and I are about an hour out of Bergen sailing north. I know you'll be having a fab time, but I hope it's extra special for you both and the weather is kind

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Hi  Gilly & Helen, neuropathy, feet only, has also struck me, almost certainly caused by radiotherapy, and which I'm managing to control through walking and gentle massage, and well done you on your big win, is that cream cakes for breakfast for a weekYum. Well Gilly your revelation about me was half right my friend, I was hoping for some time in Greece and a month or so in Australia, but my soon to be ban from flying will scupper thatDisappointed relieved, thankfully the UK is amazing, as are baguettes, especially those made at a motorway cafe just south of Paris, that still makes them in the traditional wayYum, no captains table todayPensive, will try again tomorrow.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Hi Eddie.  Well I hope you manage a place at the captain's table, as befitting our very own Cap'n Pugwash.  Best bib and tucker, mind.  Cream cakes and baguettes, who could possibly ask for more?  Aw Eddie, I hope you don't get banned from flying as it would definitely put the kibosh on Australia, but many lovely places nearer to home to explore, and I'm sure you'd be up for that.

About the neurothopy - I strongly suspect LOH has got hypothyroidism, caused by RT in at least 50% of H&N cancers.  He's got PN and stiffened joints for starters, and I'll be bringing it up with his physio at tomorrow's appointment and take it from there.

Right, pretend doctor's head off long enough to wish you good health and luck on your travels, and look forward to your 30th very soon.  Love to you and Sheila and relax, eat well and enjoy the sights xxx

  • Hi all... sorry I haven't been here in a while... was pretty wiped physically and mentally with fatigue from the paclitaxel... but it finished last Monday and I started radiotherapy this week... managed to hike to the top of Divis mountain yesterday with MaggieSlight smile... as you can see I held onto my hair in the end... I believe thanks to switching to a sulfate free shampoo and finishing with cold showers every morning. Hope you're all doing well.

  • Hi there Steve, and really good to hear you're recovering from what sounds pretty brutal treatment.  That's great news about your hair, but cold showers?!  I don't think so, as I've not had to do that since my boiler broke down, several years ago, and I never got used to them.

Aww Maggie, the little darling; I bet she loved your trek up the mountain and well done you, for making it.  Splendid stuff!

Well everything crossed that your radiotherapy goes as smoothly as possible and take good care of yourself.  Good to hear from you again and sending you, and Maggie, hugs xxx

  • Thanks Gilly, it's  not really a case of being banned, just the risk of flying will be too risky, unless I have an Op, which I'm not ready for.

If LOH's neuropathy manifests as tingling in fingers & toes, and he doesn't already take it, maybe have a word with your physio about levothyroxine, but remember I'm not an expert my friend, I've just picked up personally, and through work a little useful knowledge along the way.

Ahh Gilly, flattery will get you everywhere, but I assure you I'm not 30yo; so this old man is ready for bed.

    Night night, Eddie xx

  • Night night Eddie, and that med is exactly the one I've been researching, you clever man!  Sleep well my friend xxx
