Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Hi Gilly, you have to make your own liquorice tea, add a little root or powdered liquorice to hot water, simple, tea is my only hot drink, no milk or sugar, so I experiment and there's not much you can't make a decent cuppa out of.

A couple of friends and I went to liquorice festival in Ponty a few weeks ago, which was nice but a little disappointing, maybe something to aim for next year.

    love Eddie and Sheila xx

  • Hi Eddie.  Funny that as I was only thinking about Pomfret Cakes yesterday.  Anyway, where would I be able to get the powders from - a health food shop?  There's one in our town so I'll go in next time and ask.  I don't take sugar in hot drinks and can do without milk if the tea's flavoured.  Mint is another favourite of mine and thanks for more of your valuable tips my friend xxx

  • Ooh, lovely Helen! Hope you have some great travels on your French adventure.

  • The weather has been mixed, we even got a thunderstorm last night.

  • Ooh, Pontefract cakes, I haven't had them for years.

  • Now I am envious - a motorhome, a fancy holiday and a thunderstorm - the perfect mix.  I'm also thrilled for you lass.  If I can't have it, I'm glad when my friends can.

    Lovely stuff xxx

  • Never thought of that Eddie-thanks for the tip. I’ve taken my tea without milk or sugar for years so I’ll give any flavour a go!

  • Gill, it’s just a pest trying to remember some of it all and plan meals. I’ve had my gallbladder out too so that has an impact, as does having 2 stomas! I just think a good diet will need to suffice-changes to things like wholewheat pasta and rice, and more plant based options etc. I don’t mind any of that sort of stuff. Almond milk is nice so that’s fine. But I’m not going crazy trying to change everything as I don’t think it’s achievable and it wouldn’t be enjoyable and you need some enjoyment in life! I’ve never been able to moderate my crisps consumption, but have managed that recently so I’m proud of that!

  • Holland and Barrett do sell it I believe, but I get mine from a local shop called The Grape Tree, maybe there's one near you, if you ever get the chance to go on a nature's food walk, you'd be amazed at what you can make tea with. PS go with an expert. XX

  • Oh, I love being in the van in a thunderstorm! And any trip with wine at 2 euros a glass would give me a smile.
