Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Fingers crossed. Surgeons can do brill stuff without leaving you scarred. SCC or BCC. Both easily fixed.

  • Thank you probably have chat couple of hours

  • No problem love, I'll still be awake.

In the meantime, if Dani gives you more information, she'll put your mind at ease.  She's one of our community Champs and a minefield of info on medical matters.

    Take care,

  • Still awake anybody up for a chat x

  • Yep, I'm still awake Julie.

Told you I was lousy at sleeping, which used to annoy me, but now I just live with it.  Hey, I hope your appointment's not too early as you'll need to be alert to take in what they're going to say.  Is someone going with you?  If so, that would be handy as another pair of ears can be useful if you miss things.

Ask loads of questions too, for clarification.  I always ask tons and sometimes think they get sick of it!  It's doubtful though as they'll be used to it.

Do you have far to travel?  It's the travelling that gets on my wick as we have to rely on taxis mostly, but I can go into that another time.

Enough waffling from me.  Tell me what's on your mind if you like.

  • 11.45 not to bad takes about 20 mins to get to hospital parking terrible hubby comes with me think he's finding it hard plus he's a man don't listen I'm trying to sleep I nod off things go on in my head ping awake xx

  • That's really typical, unfortunately but like you said, he's a man!

I've had a thought.  A mod or a champion will read our posts and will provide a link for you to click on.  They'll know the appropriate forum for your particular cancer where you'll be able to connect with others in the same place as yourself.  I don't know how to do it but trust me, they'll sort you out.  I mainly post in the head and neck cancer forum as that's pertinent to my fella's cancer.  Dani, who spoke to you earlier, is our champ there and she's brilliant with the medical stuff.  Loads of us are always asking for advice and she never gets rattled with us - she's like our instant GP!

When you get the link, go and have a look around.  You'll get a warm welcome and be amazed at how informed and supportive folk will be.  I was when I joined the community and so glad I did.

If you like, click on my name and it'll bring up my profile which explains why I'm here.

Do you know what?  I can see dawn breaking over the roofs of the houses opposite ours.  I love this time of day and can't wait for the dawn chorus.  Fantastic!

I don't half go on - I've got an overactive mind!  Pity I can't put the action into some serious housework but that's a boring chore I make myself do.

Now then, I reckon you should try for some rest so you'll be on your toes for the meeting.  I'll chat again anytime you like when sleep's avoiding you.

All good luck for the appointment which isn't many hours away now.  Fingers crossed!

  • Hi Julie, welcome. It is difficult, especially at the beginning but in time I am sure you will come to realise that stressing will only make things worse and won’t change the results of anything sWaveall you will do is give yourself a headache or make you feel ill!  Try focusing on something else like a book, jigsaw etc. That Is what i do! Good Luck for your appointment and please let us know how you get on!

  • Good advice Ann.

I've replaced the stress with positive thoughts whenever I can.

    It works!
