Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Think of your favourite place to be then close your eyes and picture yourself there! I love the seaside so I picture myself standing in the water the waves lapping up! If you do this often enough you will relax & drift off to sleep!! Zzz

  • Aw, Annette.  That's always been our ultimate dream - to live by the sea.

We used to love heading off to the coast for the day to Bridlington or Scarborough.  Only around seventy odd miles away but right now it may as well be a million!

But... I'm not giving up on the dream, ever!  We're still early days into our journey so I've got to be super patient and allow things to settle down.  It'll take a good while but I'm tenacious and will move heaven and earth to get my fella and me where we long to be - on the coast.  I can almost hear the waves crashing...

  • Hi Gill, Well can you believe we are going on holiday for two weeks at the end of this month, where too? Blue Dolphin between Scarborough and Filey! I do like Bridlington too.

We are very lucky to live in Scotland where around 30 minutes in the car can take us to the seaside on the west or east coast or in another direction to Loch Lomond.

Have you heard the saying I really like.  “A little sand between the toes, Will wash away your woes!”

    I love it!

  • Hi Annette.

That's brilliant news!   Years ago now, but I've been to the Blue Dolphin too and absolutely loved it.  Barmston, a few miles out of Brid, was our go to seaside destination for years as it's lovely and quiet with lots of lovely places to see nearby.  Heavenly.

When I was young, our holidays would be in St Andrews and Dunbar and I'd always have the time of my life.  Oh, apart from the car journeys - I'd spend my time spewing up for the duration due to chronic travel sickness!  All worth it when the sea came into view.

Have a wonderful holiday and the best time.  I've never heard that saying but I'll remember it from now on in.

Hi Julie...It's so tempting to look for something that tells you that you don't have cancer but all you find is that you do and the worst kind and the worst death so take a deep breath and close the tab. Search here. The best people to ask are the ones who have walked the same road.

Once you know what your cancer is look HERE which is a list of cancers. Click on the link I made then find the one that applies to you. Click that and you get a drop down menu to join. Put a poster up there and folk will join you and help you along.

is great. I don't know how she does it

That's a rare one. I had a BCC on my leg for 8 years before it was removed. I don't know how it behave in your mouth but on the skin it doesn't metastasise. There is a Skin Cancer group but you are probably better off joining the Head and Neck Cancer group. Just click on the link
