Hi everyone im new to this forum so here is my story.
i was a fit 73 year old when i was diagnosed with primary bone cancer in my left hip, i was still working and was self employed domestic appliance engineer
and thought my painful hip was just wear due to years of moving washing machines around.
i have been a cyclist for many years and was doing around 3000 miles a year and was having very little problem with my hip while cycling.
i was referred to Birmingham orthopaedic hospital for the operation at the end of August 2019and had hip replacement and femur prosthesis
but 14 months on im still not able to walk or waddle far without a stick,i do all the exercises to strengthen aductor muscles but nothing seems to improve it.
Im able to use my bike when fitted to my smart turbo trainer and have very little discomfort but dont want to try it riding properly until i see my consultant.
The problem is that due to Covid my appointments get canceled.
Has anyone out there had a similar operation and is your recovery following a similar path to mine.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that 14 months on from having your operation you are still having difficulty walking.
I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you join the bone cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others whose primary cancer is the same as yours. If you'd like to do this then just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You could then copy and paste your post from here into a new post in the bone cancer group.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
