A week post wide local excision and sentinel node biopsy

I'm 54 and was diagnosed with a grade 3, 4cm breast cancer tumour a few weeks back. It's oestrogen and progesterone positive, Her2 +2 but then negative on further fish testing. The ki67 test is 34%. The surgeon said it's more active than they would have liked so I may need chemo, followed by radiotherapy, drugs etc. I'm day 8 today post wide local excision and sentinel node biopsy. The site of the node biopsy scar is still so painful and I'm struggling with nerve damage pain down my arm. I just wants to ask if the pain from this area usually lasts this long? The breast scar is really not too bad at all now. Many thanks x

  • Hi Jojocharles I had same.  The pain under my arm and down arm lasted longer than the actual breast pain.  It felt weird like I had something under my arm and couldn't put it down next to my side.  You must make sure that you do the exercises that they give you when you can.  I would just check with your breast care nurse tomorrow to see if this is okay.  I also had chemo and then radiotherapy afterwards.  I was 47.

  • Thanks Lee, that's exactly how it feels the last few days, like I can't put my arm down by my side. Thank you so much for responding. I'll ring the hospital tomorrow and just check all is ok, I was worrying I was developing a seroma/build up of fluid as the pain is just not getting any better. Thanks again  and hope you are doing well. X

  • Hi Jojocharles, how are you feeling today, is the pain in your arm any better?  Sending you hugs.

  • I ended up in a&e sunday night as it really started to swell, high temp and very red and hot. Started red flag sepsis protocol as my observations were not good. Still in hospital and on intravenous antibiotics/fluids. Hoping to be discharged later today. Its been horrible, just deteriorated with it really and started to feel dreadful. On the right side of the infection now though! Thank you so much for asking xx

  • Oh no Jojocharles, that is horrible.  I hope you recover quickly and are able to go home today.  There is nothing like your own bed and pillow.  It is a good job that you got help when you did.  I take my temperature regularly as they advise.  I am thinking of you and hope you get to go home today xx Please keep me posted.
