Hi
my mum has scaring on her liver is awaiting a pet scan has been given McMillan nurses number so am I right in thinking they strongly suspect cancer?
Hi Cig 75,
May I suggest u ring the helpline with this question on 0808 808 0000, 8am to 8pm 7 days a week?
Either that or post in "Ask a nurse".
We're not medically qualified so can't really answer n don't want to give u the wrong idea.
Thanks x
Hello Cig 75, I’m sorry to hear that your Mums undergoing tests, and it’s obviously a worrying time for you. I suppose the thing to remember is that until all tests are done no one will know if it’s cancer but that doesn’t stop the worrying unfortunately. In 2015 I was sent to A&E for a suspected hernia as I had a lump come up in my groin area, as most hospitals are teaching hospitals I had a gathering of student drs and a consultant around my bed and possible lymphoma was mentioned. As I was in hospital for a week and they knew I’d overheard about lymphoma as a possibility they sent a Macmillan cancer nurse specialist to see me and gave me a number to ring if I had any worries, she stressed not to google as it may not be lymphoma. I listened and waited out the 2 week wait just keeping busy. In the end it wasn’t lymphoma, (it was however a different type of cancer but I’m doing fine no measurable disease)
I think your Mum if she wanted to could use the number to ask about the tests that they are planning for her and ask how long the wait is, I think cancer is so important not to miss that they have to rule it out rather than leap to the conclusion it is that.
You are very welcome to ask questions of people’s experience but we are not medics, and if we can help we will. This group is usually for chat about anything, not necessarily cancer related as we all need a break now and then from that stuff. If your mind has leapt to liver cancer you could join the friends and family group or the liver group. I’ll put a few links in for you to click on.
