Hi I am 44 years old and was diagnosed with oestrogen positive Her 2 negative in March, grade 3 stage 1. I had a lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy in April. Oncotype test score was too high so starting chemo 15th June. 3 x EC and 3 x D. I have two small children and a very supportive partner. I worry about looking after my children especially now they have only 2 weeks left of school. Today I got my hair cut short preparing myself for the hair loss. Have been reading about the cold cap for hair loss. Does it work? Is it worth doing? No one has mentioned this in the hospital. Have found reading about others supportive and inspiring. Some really brave women and men in the online community. Some really good tips as well, so thank you.
Hi, sorry to hear your news. I was diagnosed 3 years ago and had chemo also using the cold cap.. I still lost a lot of hair but for me it was worth it!
I'm a single parent with two children who were 5 and 8 at the time and I still managed to do schools runs etc most of the time.i found the day two days after chemo were the worst.
If I can help anymore please let me know x
Hi Aims84, thats really good to know. I do have some support to help with the children. That must of been difficult for you being a single parent. Its been 3 years for you, how are you now?
As for the hair loss I guess its something you just have to get used. I will ask in the hospital tomorrow.
Take care and thanks for the reply.

I had support but I tried to keep it as normal as I could for them.
I'm really glad I cold caped as I could use hairpieces to disguise my hair loss rather than a full wig. Happy to share any tips etc, send me an unbox anytime.
I'm OK touch wood, have my annual mammogram on the 1st July.
Wishing you all the best, its all doable x
I'm glad you are doing ok. Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it.
All the best too.

Hi Pink Polly. Only difference between us is 2 yes. I was 46 when diagnoses with the same as yourself save that I had a mastectomy in January this year. My chemo regime the same. Very doable (although it doesnt feel like it at the time). I've only got 1 more Docetaxel to go. As for cold capping I would personally see how it goes. I lost my hair during the 2nd cycle of FEC and continued losing it despite continuing cold capping throughout. It really isnt as cold as you think. Take a couple of paracetamol before you go. As your hospital hasn't mentioned it I would ask as my hospital wernt using it throughout covid so I got referred elsewhere, however as i said it didnt work. You are in a lot longer when you use it. It can add about 2 hours to your treatment. Hope it all goes well. Did you have any lymph node treatment? Take care xx
Hi Forest 1865
Thanks for your reply. I asked about the cold cap but they don't do it at my hospital. I've just accepted now I will lose my hair. That's great you have only one more to go. Any good tips you would recommend? Mouth and taste buds starting to go.
Take care

Why was yr onco results too high if your lymph nodes clear can I ask. Just curious. Get a good mouthwash alcohol free not Listerine. Ice lollies to suck on if sore mouth. Can also take paracetamol throughout chemo. Take the anti sickness meds if needed. You will smash it xxx
Also nail strengthener and a good moisturiser as your skin will get dry xx
