Hello guys and girls,
I am new to the site. Upon looking for help after losing my Mum I've noticed a lack of support groups for people who are around my age, 25, who have lost a parent to cancer. I know there are people in the same boat as me, so i wanted to reach out and find out if any of you guys had found somewhere to go to. There's my local McMillan support group but it's going to be people in their 40s/50s who have lost someone and they are at an different stage in their lives than I.
Would be great to hear from people.
Thanks,
Ben.
Hi friends, i have been through a lot in my early life, i lost all my grandparents by the age of 7 years old, i then lost my FATHER at 11 on the year 2010, i will never forget that day, the reason i am posting is because i want to reassure people that others have been through your pain, my dad died of lung cancer and within 2 weeks of him being diagnosed he died, i want to let people know I AM HERE FOR YOU if you need me.
You have allot of courage for coming on this forum and talking, i lost my dad at 11, i am now 19 and i am still in pain, alll i can say to you is that you will never move on.... all you can do is look at the positive times you had with your mum and carry on. BLESS XXX
Hi,
I'm in the exact same position as you. My mum was diagnosed with lung cancer on Friday 13th April and 2 weeks later she died.Â
It's been 3 weeks and I'm still struggling. I have tried to go back to work but I think it's made things worse.Â
My mum was only 52 and has left behind myself at 23, two sister's at 18 and 16 and my dad at 53.
I feel like I'm drowning in grief and I don't know how to get back out.
Hi man, i can understand the greif you must be feeling, but in a way only you will understand how horrible you feel, the only way you can get through your pain is by living life day by day. I reccomend you keep going to work because at least you will have some sort of distraction.
Please dont give up and live life in a way your mother would have wanted you to, after all, all we have is the memories of our loved ones, that is what lives on.
Stay positive.
Hi! I know this post is from 6 years ago but I thought i would still try see if anyone got any further with this situation. I am from Barnsley and lost my dad 3 years ago from a heart stretch and my mum 2 weeks ago from cancer. I am 33 and looking for support in any form. Did any come of your enquires?
Sorry to hear your loss - they are heavy to carry. I found comfort in listening to the Grief Cast which featured younger people and normalises grief. I also joined The Dinner Party which is a charity that matches you to other people in their 20s and 30s to have dinner and chat. That was brilliant and now 3 years later it has naturally run its course for me. You can also call Macmillan for advice etc and see what they offer locally. Also have a look around on Instagram about grief - there are a few charities directed specifically towards that odd 20s and 30s age group. x
Hi Ben, I'm sorry for your loss. I'm new to this community myself as I lost my mother on Sunday and I'm only 20. It hasn't taken me long to realise that there isn't much for young adults, it's very much under 18 support or every adult from 18+, although losing a parent is absolutely heartbreaking at any age I think it would be beneficial for there to be more support aimed at young adults.
