  • Bye bye kidney .....
    Here I am again....

Well the operation to remove my left kidney went well, they had to remove some pancreas, some spleen, adrenal glands and lymphnodes - apart from that all went well - I went down to theatre at 1300 and apparently the operation finished at 1930 - I was in hospital until Thursday afternoon and oh boy wasn't it nice to get home - but I have nothing but praise for all of the medical teams that had anything to do with me and my care whilst in.

Now I've got to take it easy and am going to get stronger...

Just got to get through this weekend

Just tomorrow and Sunday to get through then work Monday morning, then leaving early to get to hospital for appointment at 11.

I keep thinking the lump has gone and maybe i imagined it, then i check again and it's there.  Weird.  I have found that i've had no appetite this week, i think i'm just worried, did enjoy my cake the other night though:)  My friend bought it for me for my birthday which is on Monday, so it's the same day as my appointment.  Don't know if that's a good sign...

    Groundhog Day

The Exe estuary can be fairly dismal in autumn!

Sorry about the gap between posts. I'm fine, but things have shifted on from "Wow, they're on the case!" to the prospect of a long samey Groundhog Day winter with a three-week cycle, looking at my chemotherapy tablet schedule.

I've just started my third cycle of docetaxel/cisplatin for what  is now pretty certainly cancer of unknown primary, and the routine has now settled. A very boring day - 8.15-5.45 - sitting restlessly about...

    Clearing out memories

How stupid am I. Had a beautiful morning. Took the dog on a very long walk. The sky was so blue, the leaves so orange-red. It was just so beautiful I felt tears. How can this be? The sheer stunning beauty of an autumn morning makes me cry, not with tears of sadness, but just in awe of how amazing all the colours are. Had a happy morning and felt myself smiling as D seemed to be around.

Then came home to some sorting and tidying. How b. stupid am I. Why did I keep going? Like twisting a knife in...

  • Calm Down, What's Important?
    Calm Down, What's Important?

This is an admonishment to myself , a reminder not to blow my top at things which really are not important.

I could have spat bullets at my laptop screen as I tried to update myself with the site changes. Frustration. Irritation. Lack of patience. Calm down. Three deep breaths. And maybe another three deep breaths.

And then I spot posts from online friends and other folks who are dealing with Big Issues. And I could smack my own wrists. For Heaven's Sake, Jen, What on Earth is Important? What really...

  • Elly's Journey
Let's start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start

I am Elly.  I went to bed on Wednesday October 31st and noticed as i turned over that my right breast was a bit sore, when i felt it i found a lump.

    'Hmm...is it a lump?...can't be...i'm only 31...i've got a baby now...can't be...it is you know...it's a lump...better not say anything to hubby yet, i'll see if it's still there in the morning.'

Well the next day i checked, then i checked again at the night, then the next morning, and, it was still there.  Phoned...

    Bye bye kidney........

Yes tomorrow my left kidney and I part company - I have know since 5th August that it was gonna have to come but tomorrow is the day - and now it's all beginning to seem rather real!!!!.

I have been an 'on-line' member since September and have spent the time reading, learning and being encouraged by people, that don't even know they have helped me, prepare for what is about to happen. Although I have 'messaged' a few special people who have really helped and inspired me by their positive attitude...

  • Breast cancer at 31
3rd FEC done, half way with chemo :)
Day 4 into 3rd FEC and feeling fairly normal again.... Or have I forgotten what normal is and this is as good as it gets just now! I don't think I felt as nauseas this time round but maybe again I'm just a bit more used to the feeling. Slightly concerned that I still have quite a lot of hair on my head.... It's thinned loads and my husband buzzed it to about a no4 but I thought I was going to be very bald by this stage but it's just VERY thin. I did have VERY thick hair to begin with so maybe...
