    Just a quick note. Big day tomorrow. I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I started having problems. I’ve known since my initial diagnosis that I would need major abdominal surgery but it always seemed so far away and happening to a different person.

    I had a meeting with my colorectal surgeon on Tuesday. Good and bad news (as always). My chemotherapy, a combination of Folfox and Cetuximab, has had excellent results on the tumours in my liver but have not been as beneficial on the tumours in my bowel. They have shrunk but not to the same extent.

  • Not such a Happy New Year!

    I have long extolled the benefits of a PICC line when receiving chemotherapy and given the choice I would always opt for one over cannulas.

    However.

    When my chemo stopped in early December I assumed, wrongly, that the PICC line would be removed. My oncologist thought it should stay in ‘just in case’. It wasn’t removed which meant that it still had to be flushed and redressed on a weekly basis.

    Usually by this time of the year I’ve started to plan for the year ahead. Weekends away (music festivals, beer festivals, sporting weekends, city breaks with friends) plus holidays. I’ve usually got a planting plan sorted for my allotment. I‘ll usually have a list of ‘jobs’ to be done in the house and garden.
