  • Day 40- Radiotherapy Planning visit, mask making

    Got a call on Friday asking me to come in for the radio therapy planning meeting at 10.30 today. The visit started with a trip up stairs to the chemo ward to have a blood test and a cannula fitted as apparently they wanted to inject me with some kind if dye to get better images for my first scan. The blood test was to make sure that my kidneys were working properly.

  • Day 36 - Trip to the RBH its Radiotherapy time

    Today was a trip to a completely different hospital following my referral from my consultant after the MDT team said I needed radiotherapy. Where I live is on he boarder of a few different health trusts so I'm Now being handed over to the RBH hospital. It's actually far easier for me to get to, but I was a little wary of having to meet a whole new team of people.

  • Day 33 ( or is it 34?) meal time swallow assessment

    Today a lovely gentleman came out from the Speech and Language team to do a meal time swallow assessment. I wasn't sure what this was going to involve but assumed is need a meal so bought a ready meal and cooked it ready for his arrival.

  • Day 32 - Appointments

    So tomorrow sees the first of 4 appointments over the next 2 weeks. First up is speech and language with a home visit for a meal time swallow assessment. I'm assuming it's them assessing me eating, and I'm not expected to provide lunch for both of us! Then later this week is the referral to the ENT department of the hospital where I'll be having radiotherapy. The following week we have a check over at the breast clinic…

  • Day 27 - Finding exercises post neck dissection

    Last night I decided to do some research into exercises to try and loosen up my neck as I am experiencing some tightness there. I'm also quite 'lumpy' along the scar and the skin is swollen and quite solid/ tight feeling. I found this leaflet from Mount Vernon which has some good exercises.
