Hi all , I am 52 and in shock. 4 weeks ago I was normal but had cramp and for the first time in my life a uti. a random blood test showed a crazy level of ca19-9 so it was investigated and last week I discovered via MRI that I had advanced endometrial carcinoma that looks like it has not spread further than the pelvis but has infiltrated lymph nodes in the pelvis. I had a contrast ct and biopsy yesterday and am waiting for results. The gynae has already said this is advanced stage and I am devastated . I would like to hear from anyone who has experience of stage III or IV like this and any help would be appreciated I am struggling with this as feel well but obviously am not. I feel like my life is slipping away with no control . It’s a lot to take in Thank you
Hi Loulou
I was stage 3. Following MRI, I was told I had a prominent but not enlarged lymph node, so got me to do a PET scan. This didn’t show up anything in the lymph node, but did highlight a few cells on one of my ovaries, so was diagnosed stage 3A.
Had hysterectomy beginning of Dec 24, and this was followed up with 25 sessions of radio with 2 lots of Cisplatin. I coped with this reasonably well. I then had 4 lots of Carboplatin/paclitaxel, which I found harder but got through it. Finished this at end of May. Had CT scan 3 months later, and no evidence of disease. Just had second 3 monthly check up and all still fine.
The key to getting through this, however hard it is, is not to think too far ahead, just focus on what you need to do now. It does feel easier once you know what the treatment plan is, and you get to feel a bit more in control again. There are quite a few of us here that have had advanced cancer, so do ask for help, even if it is to scream. Hope you don’t have to wait too long for your results of CT scan.

Hi Loulou26
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear that you have had a diagnosis of endometrial cancer and that it has been diagnosed at a more advanced stage. I can understand that it all feels overwhelming and devastating at the moment.
It is normal after a diagnosis for the MRI/CT scan to be done and these along with the lymph node biopsy will give a provisional stage and grade. This is what they use to come up with the most effective treatment.
It sounds like they believe the cancer to be locally advanced and they are just getting a clearer picture of where exactly the cancer is. I know that it is hard to wait for the results but hopefully they will not take too long.
For most ladies where it is medically possible the first line of treatment tends to be a hysterectomy. With a more advanced cancer there is normally some follow up treatment.
I think with any diagnosis it can help to break things down into smaller steps and not to think to far ahead. Otherwise it can all feel overwhelming. Focus on one thing at a time and on what you know rather than what you don't yet know for sure. Endometrial cancer is normally a very treatable cancer and there are many ladies on here who have had locally advanced cancer and have successfully undergone treatment for it.
The first step is to wait for those results. They will be the deciding factor on what your treatment plan will look like. If you feel like it would help to talk things through then I can recommend giving the Support Line a call. They are there from 8am-8pm daily.
My own treatment was surgery, then chemo and then radiotherapy. My surgery took place 4 weeks after my first symptom. Once those results come back I would expect things to move quite quickly for you. I would hope that by this time next week your results will go the the MDT meeting and they will be in touch with you to arrange next steps. In the meantime, we are here when you need us.
